Has anyone had luck with disabling this feature? Our dealer is great and has disabled some other stuff but not sure if this ones possible. I hook and unhook a few trailers daily and it drives me insane. I get the safety of it but it makes using truck a little cumbersome.
    thx

Someone posted recently that putting the truck in park then quickly go to reverse then park again disables said feature. Haven't tried it and it seems unlikely but you never know.....

I think he is talking about trying to back up with the door still open. Doesn't this make the truck stop?

Hey thanks for the welcome! What I mean is , if you are backing up and open door a bit to check around or something the brakes lock up. Happens if you’re just short of the hitch and jump in quickly to back up a bit. As soon as you put it in reverse the brakes lock. Also we’ve been off road and want to open door slightly to check edge of trail the truck locks up.

Ok so I’m the one that posted it and I’m in my truck trying to verify the sequence because I don’t do it that often. It seems it’s a two part process. With the door open, I put truck in reverse and my dash says “Shift into P before exiting vehicle” you can hear the brake air noises doing there thing. It seems you have to let it brake on you, but once it does then you go back into “Park” and then “reverse” again and you can now go backwards with door open. Obviously it’s a safety issue in case you accidentally get out of the car with the car still in gear so you can’t get run over.

Actually you don’t need to let it “brake” just move a hair and then put the truck back to park and then reverse. I know it seems like a hassle but it’s quick and it’s the way around it

Or when brakes lock once door is opened, pressing the park brake switch to the release position will now allow you to continue backing with door open. That's what I've been doing to maneuver one of my trailers into a tight spots. BUT you get a warning beeper while doing so. I'll have to try the shift to park and back to reverse.

This feature is incredibly frustrating and very dumb and in my opinion very dangerous if I jump in my truck and got to go somewhere quickly and I can't cuz the stupid e-brake is starting to engaged then I'm stuck trying to fight my e-brake

depends on your point of view. if it was implemented some people would still be alive today. i think this requirement mostly came about due to that guy playing chekov getting run over and pinned by his vehicle.

also if people wouldnt be so litigation happy and have common sense a lot of this wouldnt be necessary. remember the mc d hot coffee case, thats the downhill snow ball that started all this.

It'll never be a perfect world, stupid people will always find a way to hurt themselves, meanwhile, the rest of us have to deal with these ridiculous overblown safety items.

Enlighten us with what is kicking around in the old sand bag between your shoulders on what would be dangerous about the ebrake being on? I'm having trouble imagining a situation where this would be dangerous, but am all ears for what your mind had dreamt up....

I mean a grizzly, alligator, ‘cougar’, or even x-wife could be chasing him, gnawing on an ankle as he gets in truck. Not being able to drive off with door open could be the end.
