I recently bough a 2013 Tundra Crewmax that was in a minor fender bender, no airbags. I got the full carfax and autocheck report which had the case number to allow me to order the police crash report. Nothing to serious.

Now the dealer said the seat belt was fine and passed it through safety inspection in Texas. The seat belt is definitely stretched a bit, the edges across the chest curl inwards and a little fuzzy(frayed?). After going back and forth trying to get them to replace it everyday for over a week and failing I decided to do it myself. They quoted me $575 for the seatbelt alone. I have found the OEM belt online for $175 - $197 from dealers and other places but no one will ship the thing.

Now for my actual question, is this something I should keep being extremely worried about, I like being alive, or trust that the multiple people at the dealer know what they are talking about and does anyone know a place that will actually ship the OEM belt assembly? It seems like a straight forward easy job.

    I'm new. Hi all -

You're correct. The on-line Toyota dealers won't ship that part. It has an explosive charge in it (probably for the side curtain air bag) that qualifies it as hazardous cargo. Don't know why they won't ship. All you have to do is pay the $35 UPS Ground HC fee. Try ToyotaPartsDeal.com. They work thru a dealer and will ship. Have your VIN handy to look up the correct part. That'll get you the correct color and everything.

Also there are several sites online that offer to rebuild your damaged seat belt for less than $100. You do need to ship as HC both ways.

Now my question. ANYTHING SPECIAL WE NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IN REPLACING A SEAT BELT OTHER THAN DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY WHILE DOING SO?

I had a 1989 Honda Prelude with a seat belt issue. It was frayed and would not extend/retract as it should. Now,it did work, but just not as smoothly as it should.

I had an F150 with the same issue.

I called the brand dealer, told them I hadn’t seatbelt issue, and needed them to order me a seat belt since it was a government mandated safety item and it gets replaced for free.

    According to the NHTSA

None of the regulations or statutes administered by NHTSA require manufacturers to provide a lifetime warranty for seat belts. However, NHTSA has the authority to require manufacturers to replace seat belts under certain circumstances.

Your experience may vary, but so have had several friends and family members get their belts replaced using the above.

    God Luck!!

I rather doubt if having the belt chewed by a dog qualifies for manufacturer's replacement.
