So I got stuck in the sand today and it took some good hard yanks to get me out. Upon driving away I heard a clunking noise coming from the driveline and discovered this. Any advice on what to do from here? My truck is currently parked and I don’t plan on driving it. Just looking for some answers on what exactly needs to be done.

How did they pull you out of the sand, what did they attach to?

There WAS a C-clip that held the splined shaft in place from within the transmission but now it’s loose somewhere in the transmission. You’d have to open it up to retrieve it and place a new one on. Might as well rebuild the transmission since you have to take out practically everything just to get to the splined shaft.

Why wouldn't the C clip be attached to the splines still?

Maybe the c clip broke? But that still doesn’t explain why the shaft was jerked on so hard

I would think the C Clip would stay attached like on a CV axle. Not being able to pull the output stub without disassembling the trans sounds insane, but maybe I'm wrong. Frankly I'm surprised there's even a C Clip, I would've thought a 2WD shaft would just slide in and be the slip yoke. I agree it's wild the shaft came out, probably got yanked from the rear axle.

My suggestion was going to be just rotate the shaft until the splines realign and shove it in, and if that's not possible due to it coming up short then the leafs are bent.

It recently put a 6 inch lift on my truck. I also installed a carrier bearing drop kit. I was told my the alignment shop that I had installed my rear lift blocks backwards and that it could cause problems with my leaf springs down the road. That’s really all the info I left out.

Did any of your rear-end get damaged/bent during the pullout?

Can you take a photo of the carrier bearing and rest of the driveshaft? More photos the better for troubleshooting.

This makes it all make more sense. I would definitely revisit the suspension work done in the back. Something has probably gotten pulled out of position due to the lift install.

The exploded view of the tail shaft/housing doesn't show a "C" clip. Sadly I can copy the image.

Something moved in the rear, thats the only way for that to happen.

That could snap the pins on the springs and cause the axle to shift. Something got seriously jacked because driveshafts don’t pull out for no reason.

Those lift blocks generally have some correction built into them for the change in pinion angle. So the block is more like a wedge. Installing them backwards not only fails to correct for pinion angle change, it actually takes the problem and makes it worse. Definitely need to correct those blocks.

    Many on the way.
The lift effectively lengthens the distance between the trans/axle. Then the blocks allowed massive axle wrap, which then caused the already overextended slip joint to travel past the slip limit.

You are correct, there is no C clip. The female end inside the housing is attached to all of the planetaries and what not. This male end that the drive shaft attached to does slide in.

Maybe it’s just me but that carrier bearing looks bent upwards towards the rear.

Carried bearing also looks all chewed up on top.

First thing I would do is get those blocks swapped around the way they should be. The pinion angle has to be off in relation to the transmission output.
