"dry" squeak at rear about two minutes after parking truck (on topic only)

    {think that's what the mods said to do with the title...}

I've noticed in the past few weeks that after I park the truck, regardless of distance or time driving (could just be moving the cars around in the driveway or actually going somewhere), about two minutes after parking, assuming I'm still nearby, I hear this dry squeak that sounds like it's coming from the rear brakes.

Keep in mind, the truck is parked and not in motion.

This is not the noise of the parking brake actuating after putting the truck in park. It's something completely different that happens only after the truck has been parked and turned off for two minutes or more.

It almost sounds like the truck is running through some system check with the rear brake or something and maybe an actuator needs to be lubricated or something?

It is definitely a mechanical noise.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the truck might do with any actuating at the rear brakes or hubs, etc after being shut off that I could potentially inspect without resorting to going to the dealership just yet.

    Thanks

I had a similar noise on my '24 that I've also heard before on my wife's RAV4 and my motorcycle.

My first thought went to brakes too for some reason..I suppose due to the electric e-brake.
Next time you hear the noise, unscrew your gas cap. You get a rush of air or a hiss? If yes, and the noise quits, your mystery noise is part of the evaporative emissions system.
I believe there's a solenoid that balances the pressure in your fuel tank without releasing gasoline vapors. Or something along those lines.

    That’s really interesting actually.

Some assclown drilled a hole in my gas tank a few months ago and I’ve been dealing with the headache of everything that’s come from it. Most recently, I had to get the fuel door release mechanism replaced due to said assclown prying the fuel door open. It wouldn’t release when I’d press the door button and when I did manage to get it open, the gas pump would shut off prematurely.

From what I understood from the dealership, the door release mechanism also actuates some valve in the vent line.

I don’t recall noticing the noise before getting the parts replaced, so I wonder if there’s some correlation based on what you’re saying here.

My 2022 1794 does that since I got it 2 years a go and still does. I always wrote it off as the self levelling air system in it. Kinda like and air brake releasing air in a semi. In saying that my wife's 2017 Lexus makes a LOT of noises hours after it is driven. No idea, not concerned, more of a FYI post

This was my first thought, as well. I don’t know about the third gens, but our 2nd Gen sequoia does it on occasion. It makes a a quiet squeak almost like some kid trying to sneak fake nearly silent farts in class with a Whoopi cushion or balloon. It’s the evap system doing its thing. Perhaps it’s the same deal on the 3rd gens. Surprisingly, I’ve never heard my 2nd Gen tundra do it, just the sequoia.

Just to add a point of clarification, I have a Non-Hybrid, which does not have the switch actuated fuel release door. The operation of the Evap system might be different between the two, especially if the door release is somehow tied into the tank vent line valve.
Sorry about your fuel theft experience, thieves suck. It's making me reconsider a fuel tank skid plate, even though I don't offroad that much.

And yes, a kid trying to sneak a fart is the perfect description for this sound.

Have you tried disabling the parking brake feature to rule that out?

Yep, I literally bought an RCI skid for the fuel tank for no other reason than to make their lives more difficult the next time around. Still need to install it though... Now I just make sure not to park in the street in front of our house over night ever again. Such a pain in the ass for a single 1/4 inch hole.

Smart. I have not. But I'll give that a shot and see if it changes anything.
