Im pretty interested in getting duratracs for my next tire. I know they may be loud and my mpg may go down. And no Im not gonna get At3s lol. I like these style of tire. Q or R series. I was think R because I drive with a lead foot. Im leaning towards 275 70 but not opposed to 285 75. They will be on trd pro wheels. I will be putting coilovers on before I pull the trigger. I just want to hear what you guys have to say.
    Thanks in Advance

I ran two sets of 275/70R18’s Duratracs on my 2008 truck. The first set I got just over 80k miles out of. They did well in mud and snow, but on wet pavement from a stop they would spin every time...even if I was gentle on the pedal. Even with the spinning on wet pavement, I went back for a second set because of how many miles I got out of the first set. That second set was a bitch to keep balanced the whole time I had them, and were even more slippery on wet pavement than the first set. They developed uneven wear and eventually I pulled them off at about 50k miles and went to a KO2. Those didn’t do quite as well for me in the snow, but I’m wasn’t in the snow that much at that time in my life. And they were way better on wet pavement, which we get a lot of around here.

Also, for reference, I didn’t have to add any height for the 275/70 Duratracs. I had the TRD thin skid plate and had to tweak the edges a little (bend them up with some pliers) but that was it.

I had a set on an 05 tundra n loved it, now I have a set on my 18 tundra on offroad rims. 285/75 is perfect not much wider but has some height.

I will echo what Rainman said. They suck on wet pavement but are good everywhere else. I can't wait to get rid of mine due to the wet pavement slipping.

I had two sets on my xterra and loved them. I didn’t have wet pavement issues. But seems to be a somewhat common comment on this forum so not sure of my plans for next round. Maybe because the gen 1 xterra only had 3L engine and w my larger wheels just didn’t have the torque to make it common experience .

Hell ya. I love my Duratracs. Just drove to work this morning in a snow storm and it handled like nothing was on the ground. Of course I was in 4Hi but nonetheless, it’s a great tired that gives me confidence to know that if I drive responsibly, I’ll be safe.

As mentioned above they were excellent in the snow especially the deeper it got. In rain they were terrible and in ice they got a little hairy. I know most tires do in the ice do I found it not to be as composed as other tires on ice. Additionally they wandered a lot if you do a lot of highway speeds. Don’t downplay the noise they get real noisy.

Overall it’s a good tire and they will be excellent in adverse conditions. I couldn’t handle the negative trade offs of having such good traction on a DD Tacoma so sold them and purchased a milder AT. My BIL puts them on all his vehicles as swears by them even his wife’s suv.

Had them on my 09 Taco. No issues at all on wet pavement. Good all around tire. They saw all kinds of road conditions going up to AK and while there for 10 months. Softer rubber compound.

After looking at your location I realize I should add to my comment. The colder it got the more the Duratrac started slipping in the rain. In warmer temps it was not as bad but still slipped...

I had them on my Tacoma and they were what others said (Not good in rain)

A friend has them on her Xtera and I forgot how noisy they are.
I need to buy a set in the next couple months and I am on the fence with them or something else.

I do know in snow they are monsters though and someone called them Nom noms when I was driving through a field.

They are just eating this snow Nom nom nom nom nom

The only problem I encountered was they didn't to well on ice but most tires don't. BP had their entire truck fleet up on the North Slope shoed with DuraTracs. Conditions up there are about as extreme as you can get any time of year.

They are amazing in conditions like that...I know NYC was running them on all their city owned ambulances for a while.

I ran them mostly on road...

I know you’re stuck on the duratracs but I’ve had KO2’s, Duratracs, Wildpeaks, and a few others. The Wildpeaks are by far the best of all worlds. Fantastic in the snow, wet and dry. Price is usually better than the others too.

Mine seemed to wear a bit quickly but attributed that to the softer compound. Hard to find the perfect tire but there are a lot of great tires to chose from. Hard to beat Cooper.

I've been hearing nothing but good reviews on the wildpeaks and they look awesome. I ran duratracs on my 4Runner and they were very good but my next tire might be the wildpeaks.

The Falkens are great in the snow. I put a set on my wife's lowered Q5. They do look a bit out of place on her car but handle great in the snow/ice.

I could not stand the "wawawawa" at 35mph+. Got rid of them after one got flat out at deer lease.

Went with Michelin LTX AT2s, better side snipes and better off road handling and of course highway driving is So Quite....

I seem to burn those out at 30,000 or a lot less.

I believe this has to be a false statement. The Cooper at3 may be better in most situations or in most normal driving conditions, I’m willing to bet if you were snowed in or needed to get through some sticky mud to make it home most would pick the duratrac purely based on reputation and physical/mechanical/visual aspects of the tread design. Being an armchair engineer here because I’ve never owned either and am not a tire designer or tester. Still this comment is clearly over reaching. Hell I’d even argue duratracs look better than the at3! I’d still choose the falken as the most well rounded tire of the bunch. Cooper more road oriented. The fact that the Falken never slip in the rain (or anywhere really) unless I intend it gets it my vote!

Dealer couldn’t balance my 4 duratracs from the factory. I didn’t like them and switched over to AT3W and haven’t looked back since.

I’ve run through a number of sets of Duratracs. They are far better than Cooper AT3 when it comes to off road traction and deep snow. They aren’t bad on ice at all, but there are better choices if that’s a concern. I’ve not had the wet road traction issues others have described.

I’m a big fan of them. I have them on my Tundra and will put them back on my work truck when the General ATX wear out.

I heard of balancing issues but that wasn’t my experience either. Again just on my 01xterra is my only experience. But I lifted it and put on 275/85/16 on original rims and didn’t have an issue either time. 4” larger diameter. I don’t recall original but they were probably 255 on a 29” diameter. Nissan went larger on 02.

I’m on my first set of Duratracs. 285/75R18 on factory Off Road wheels. Snow rated. They fit fine with the factory Pro suspension (2” lift up front). They balanced perfectly the first try, and they’re not nearly as loud as I thought they would be. I do have less than 3k miles on them so far, so maybe the volume will change as I add miles.

I haven’t had issues with wet traction aside from a bit of wheel spin from a dead stop on an incline when I was in “beast mode” (all traction nannies off with tow/haul engaged). Seems to me in that situation ANY all-terrain tire will spin a little bit.

Regarding KO2s, I used to drive a 4Runner and spent a lot of time at T4R.org. I was looking for tire recommendations and found a pretty big thread over there about KO2s. Lots of guys reported that the KO2 rubber would change seemingly overnight right around 20k miles. It would get hard and brittle and become terrifying to drive in wet conditions. Many guys swore those tires off for good.

Regarding the Coopers, those seem to be the brand I hear the most balancing issues with. They’re great tires if you can get them balanced.

I have no complaints with my DTs. Time will tell. It’s awesome that @RainMan_PNW got 80k out of his first set!

They’re pretty good, quieter and smoother than the DT. A little better on ice. Not nearly as good in deep snow and mud.

I’ll echo others - I had KO2s on an older truck they were expensive and didn’t last long and sucked on wet pavement. I put Falken Wildpeaks on based on what I read in this forum and love them! Best price by far over anything else, quiet and ride great. I’ve only got about 7k miles and one rotation so far but they seem to be wearing just fine.
I test drove a new 2020 Chevy with Duratracs and man they were loud and rough...no thanks.
