    Hi all,

My budget doesn't strech up into the TRDPro stratosphere but I am a big fan of the look (although I'd probably choose different wheels). What is needed to recreate the TRDPro, aside from the side stamp?

Is it just upgraded suspension, wheels and the hood scoop with black grill? LED lights? Leather from Katzkin. I'm trying to tally a cost and figure out which model I should purchase to begin the process. I have a double whammy in that I'm new to trucks and Tundras in particular.

I want to create a running list of upgrades I'll need to get there. Any direction on best starting models (TRD?)

I wouldn't even bother trying to recreate a pro. Just get an sr5 and build it the way you want.

If you're looking for the Pro cosmetics, I'd do a TRD sport and upgrade the suspension

Ha ha, understood. I don't actually want to build a TRDPro, I just want to know what separate them from a typical SR5. So I can begin adding up all the upgrades needed. I don't have to have the same suspension but the Pro has it so what am I looking at price wise?

I understand. Well, like you said in your original post, seats, bedsides, suspension, grill, led's, skewp, and so on. It is pricey. The pro suspension alone runs around 3k.

The Cruel Postings of Pai Mei

You will never be able to build PRO without changing the interior LOL. Get an SR5 like other have said and change the suspension, grille, etc. Other than that, the closest way is to actually buy a PRO.

I can update the seats with Katzkin and make it a bit more custom, so that's enough for me. I don't need cool emblems everywhere. Is that what you're referencing? That with the red stitching?

Just the suspension, wheels, seat upgrade, and chrome delete will cost you almost as much as buying a Pro... and you don't get the bed stamps. Either buy a Pro or just build it better than a Pro... for less.

I'm sure you're right, I'm just trying to get totals down for each upgrade. The nice thing is that I can customize as I want and should have a superior product in the end. And best of all, I can do it in stages. Save up a $1-2k and perform a mod. Rinse. Repeat.

    As of now, I'm budgeting:

    • $1200 for customized katzkin leather
    • Another $500 for interior upgrades not including stereo
    • If I decide to upgrade the audio, probably looking at $1500-2000 (I don't want a rattle box, just good sound through the entire spectrum and a nicer head unit).
    • Suspension - ? I know so little about suspension I have no idea how to adequately price it. My uncle is a pretty adept mechanic so I plan on having his help (and lots of youtube, ha ha). I only want 1.5-2" lift/level. If I go with kings, anyone have a rough estimate?
    • Wheels are last on my list. They really set a car off but I'd rather having everything else accounted for plus I'd like to burn off some of the tread I already paid for. $2k+

Anything else? Thanks for the help.

Honestly you can mimic a pro without buying all the pro parts. Get the Bilstein 5100's or a coilover for the front to level it. You can order color matched mirror caps, hood bulge and TRD pro grille. The wheels on the 2015-2017 Pros look better than the 2019s, imo. You can get those for not too expensive (or just powdercoat some stock 18" TRD OR wheels black). You can buy a Pro shift knob and wheel center caps too. Leather would be last on my list. As for exhaust, lots of options out there cheaper than the TRD.

If you want to run Kings, Fox, Icon or ADS suspension I would budget 3K. You get what you pay for. If you want a Pro keep saving for one. If you want to build one get a limited and mod it how you want. Limited get you leather interior and you can probably get a good deal on one.

Welcome to the adventures down the rabbit hole...I went limited and built/building from there. Set of kings or anything equivenelt will set you back as @alpinepro4 said about $3k if your going to install yourself...then new wheels...and tires...and the list continues. Good luck you have come to the right place, lots of great info here

Mind telling me what you got your limited for (and MSRP)? or is there a dedicated thread to tracking prices? I'm looking at some limiteds and TRD sports. It may be silly but I really like the hood scoop. So if I go limited, I have to factor that into the equation, plus having to black out all the chrome.

What is the best/most durable way to black out the chrome bumper and chrome surrounding the grill? I've seen some people say powdercoat, others say LineX. LineX seems too rough for the front of a car, I'd be worried about decades of bug guts accruing. Anyone care to share the best (permanent) way to do this? I'm guessing an OEM color-matched bumper is prohibitively expensive.

That's the problem with the limited...all that chrome. I plasti dipped my bumper ends just to see how it looks, def not permanent. Decided I'm going to bead blast the chrome off and color match paint them. Grill surround you cant really beat buying from @Roman color matched.

Do we have any good photoshoppers on the board? I'm really attracted to the Cement and Cavalry blue colors. If I don't get a sport, I want to see how the Cavalry blue would look if I had the chrome blacked out.

Like this Cement one I found:

Like @joonbug said, its probably actually going to cost you MORE to recreate that. Just do a color match and let the rest be whatever you want. You can buy a nice rebuildable suspension for less than a pro suspension. 35s and wheels for cheaper than stock pro wheels.. and so on..

My Limited was MSRP $49,695. Got it for $45,000.

I agree with what many others have said, maybe keep saving for the Pro if that’s the exact look and package you really want. There’s a bunch of good aftermarket products but by the time you add all of them (parts + labor) you’re going to be at or over the price of a Pro.

I was able to get the color matched grill/bulge/surround and honeycomb grill included in my deal. That worked for me since i also did not like all the chrome. Swapping those parts isn’t cheap and depending on what color you get, getting someone to do the paint matching is something to think about.

I’m happy with the way my truck rolled off the lot and that’s what ended up being important to me. I wanted tan leather and sunroof so i got exactly what i hoped for.

The dealer also sprayed Line-X Preimum for me and included that in the deal. I was happy with that and the Dealer gets a better deal that i could have anyway.

I wanted the Pro really bad when i first saw it. IMO nothing else is like the Pro but i did not like the blackout interior or the hood scoop. The scoop is sweet but i felt like it was hard for me to see over it to the left/right side of the hood.

My plans changed a little but it worked for me in the end and i’m happy with where by build started. I can always spend more money and keep going with it..ha

I have the “better than a pro and saved a bunch of money package” 38,500 for the truck and I’ve upgraded most everything on it to give me the look I wanted without breaking the bank like the pro would of. Lots of good aftermarket parts for our trucks out they And most you can install yourself.
