Was hoping to find a dual exhaust kit for my 03. Looking for something loud and side exit. I found the Flowmaster 44s on eBay but I’m a little hesitant. Call me cheap but I was trying to stay in the $400 and below range (I’m in college). Not having a whole lot of luck finding anything.

I had a Gibson exhaust for about 5 years when I lived in Arizona. Good quality and fitment,, sound was "better" than stock, but the East Coast salt and crap ate in 2 years after moving there. Had a cheap muffler put on and it also lasted about 5 years. Fast forward another 5 years and today (literally) I just picked up the truck from the exhaust shop. Had them install a FlowMaster Flow FX on it. Sounds great. Nice deep tone, not too droney on the highway and quiet at idle. Muffler cost $55 and spent $60 on the install.
A decent exhaust is going to cost about $4-500 on an aluminized steel and $6-700 for a stainless steel one. I would just buy a Flowmaster, Magnaflow or Borla muffler, have a shop install it and save yourself some money for..... school. Yeah! studying materials

Okay fair enough… not obnoxiously loud, but I’m not big on the stock exhaust

If you just want something throatier so you can turn heads, all you need to do is remove the resonator. Not much cost in removing vs. adding.

That said, just tossing on a different muffler will accomplish your goal of giving a more aggressive note, but you can easily venture off into "asshole" territory quickly.

    Have fun: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-exhaust-clips.60466/

I swear there's another thread that just has mufflers, but maybe I'm nuts.

Rather than guessing or going by anecdotal internet recommendations, you can call me:) The engineer of your next exhaust system.

I’m highly qualified for the job since I’ve built over 20,000 systems for tundras. And I’ve prototyped literally hundreds of designs.

I can ask you questions over the phone to figure out the perfect build, then make it for you and ship it anywhere in the world.

I guess I'm weird, but I like the mechanical noise of a motor, and hate when the exhaust drowns it out. I detest loud motorcycles, especially Harley's, but on the extremely rare occasion that I hear a stock one, with a stock exhaust, I'm struck at how great the motor sounds. I wonder why someone would cover that up with straight pipes. I love the sound of air cooled boxer motors as well. Like I said, I'm a bit weird probably.

I've learned with Tundra exhaust systems you get what you pay for.
As stated my Magnaflow catback on my 2005 wasn't much different than stock.

The 2 in 1 out Magnaflow I bought for my 2014 5.7 had the drone from the inner depths of hell.
I then found @dirtydeeds and have I've been a happy customer ever since.

I'm on my 3rd system that Keith built.
    Top notch customer service too...

His systems compliment the Tundra V8, not drown it out with obnoxious noise...
Give him a call, he is very easy to talk with..:D

I've heard a couple cool sounding Gen 1 Tundras . . . you wouldn't know they had an 'exhaust' at idle.
But when they would get hop on it, the sound was a nice low pitched rumble, that fit with the Tundras 'Sub-300 ci' motor.
The 'crappy' ones I've heard sounded like some kid got under the truck with a drill and put a few dozen holes in the muffler.
Either do it right, or don't do it all IMO.
You get what You pay for.

@dirtydeeds Call Keith he can get you the sounds you want and he actually knows these trucks instead of putting a sh***y system on go with one of his.

I guess bassani doesnt make truck exhaust anymore? Couldnt get their website to work.

the magnaflow dad put on his titan is a little too loud for my liking, but with cats and resonators it probably wouldnt be too bad. Loud mufflers with stock cams will always be a little meh.

I went with the rough country cat-back kit. No performance gains were noticed but it does have a slightly louder than-stock idle and when you accelerate it definitely lets you know it's there. Not obnoxiously loud but yet still represents the V8 well. No drone on the highway either. Easy Install

Alright kid, we've heard all of the sage advice from the old heads. Let this old head give you some advice also. Your a kid in college. This is your best opportunity to get that too loud exhaust and rip around trumpeting your V8 awesomeness. Just don't be a prick with it. Straight pipes at WOT everywhere you go is annoying to everyone else. I myself slapped a 50 series Flowmaster on my 2000 (it's still on there) as soon as I got the truck and have loved every minute of it. You need a 40 series. Most exhaust shops can get you one of those and your side pipes with echo tips for $400 or less. Doesn't have to be the Flowmaster, but the point is go for it, without being a jerk to everyone around you. Are their drawbacks to the system? Sure. You'll likely have drone in the cab at times. A more expensive solution can negate that, but you're on a budget. Dirty Deeds has a great reputation here, but they are out of your price range by more than double.

You sure they make parts for our 2000-2006 Tundras over here in the 1st Gen forum?

No, mine is 2015. Apologize as I didn't notice the generation of the forum.
