What are some of your thoughts about mbrp exhaust systems? Thinking of changing my stock system at some point. Spending over $600 seems a bit silly to me. These systems seem like good quality, good sound. I’m thinking of the single side exit catback or even the turn down. I’m not planning on doing major off roading, but not having the extra tailpipe connection out the back to create a future leak, seems like a good idea. That’s why I’m considering the turn down. Drone and loudness might be the only issue. But hey, nothing wrong hearing more of that 5.7 sing.

@Squatting Pigeon had an mbrp system and it believe he has some strong opinions he can share.

Most are going to tell you either go buy DirtyDeeds or from SPD. But it comes down to what you like and your budget. I too was too cheap for these systems new but recently stumbled on a deal locally for a bolt on exhaust for the Tundra. It really is a tough call so I wish you luck.

Thanks for the input. I had never seen that spd over the axle dump exhaust before. That looks sick with the dual tips. Oh great. My budget may be doubling. This forum is a slippery slope. lol

    :spending:

Yeah... I never imagined I'd spend so much on a vehicle when it functions properly (as in not in a shop)

This place is rough on the wallet, but you will love the truck more and more.

Not sure what else you plan to do, but the SABM (stock air box mod) and a few other intake mods on this forum also help improve sound. I'm not saying to skip the exhaust, but saying if you are doing the exhaust you might want to enjoy the upgrade as much as you can :D

Haha. True true. The aftermarket is huge for these trucks. I like learning about the smaller players in the aftermarket world, on this forum. The smaller companies often do the best work. Also got to support the small businesses of the great USA.

Never heard of that mod before. I’ll look into it. Definitely looking to open things up a little. Start with an exhaust, then ponder the rest for a bit. OEM+ is kind of the build I’m going for.

Don’t waste your money on the MBRP. I got mine for like $200 as an open box eBay deal and it still wasnt worth that. Every single piece and part rusted together and I had to cut it off the truck after about two years.

SPD all the way. It’s rowdy but the good kinda rowdy. I recommend pairing it with a turbocharger. The turbo acts as a resonator and takes the noise out but leaves the sound and adds its own melodic sounds.

Thanks for the input. Living in the rust belt, I was wondering how the mbrp might hold up with all the salt here. So far the exhaust from spd is standing out to me. Might have to save up a bit more for it/longer, but seems it will hold up much better. You get what you pay for, as the old saying goes. Thanks for sharing your experience and helping me make up my mind, avoid a bad product.

Have had both SPD and a Dirty Deeds on my N/A 2018. My quick review:

SPD sounds amazing under throttle and at idle. Definitely on the rowdy side, but this is all subjective. For me, it was too loud for a daily driver/ family tow wagon. It droned at cruise speed, making it difficult to use my Bluetooth for phone calls, voice texting, or just about anything else.

I replaced it with a 10” Dirty Deeds system. Total opposite end of the spectrum. A little rumble at startup and decent note when under throttle, but very quiet at idle. Zero drone in cab and I can fully use my Bluetooth again. Slight low end power improvement over the SPD. Zero noticeable difference at high rpm. It’s so much quieter than the SPD, I almost wish I’d have gone with the 8” system. But, it’s awesome for towing and the back seat folks can hear the conversation.

So, I’d go SPD if you want loud that still sounds badass or if you’ll spend a lot of time crawling underneath to look at the shine. Dirty Deeds if you’re wanting great sound at lower levels and you don’t care that it looks boring and plain.

Nothing else was on my radar.
