Is exhaust stock or has tailpipe been shortened? If it is stock and no mods to piping, you must have an exhaust leak someplace. Should be easy to locate that

The exhaust is all stock. I’ve looked for leaks and taken it to an exhaust shop and had them check. Another thing that I noticed is that the exhaust is very strong coming out of the tail pipe. Kind of like when you’re standing next to a diesel trucks exhaust pipe, the smell is just very strong. My exhaust does not smell like a diesel just to be clear

    Tried scanning for codes?

I would think there would be a CEL if your truck is running that rich or the catylists are pooped.

How many miles on the truck?

Unburnt fuel smelly or burnt oil smelly?

Maybe the PCV is shot and the HVAC is bringing the smell into the cab?

No codes. Just replaced the evap air pump (behind the back of the intake manifold that get tubes connect to). No change. The exhaust smell is the same just amplified 10x in concentration. Maybe a little unburnt fuel and a little burnt oil smell but mainly super strong exhaust smell. Let me look into the pcv.

As a sidenote if one of my injectors was stuck open wouldn’t the truck run weird or have some noticeable issue?

I would think there would be a noticeable stumble, or a code thrown.

That sounds like maybe there's an issue with the catalytic converters. That's the main thing that would make your tailpipe emissions smell much worse than normally. At least when I deleted mine on the Tacoma it did. Put them back on and smell is gone

Any performance issues? Acceleration not up to snuff? Rough idle?

How many miles on vehicle? Do points 3 or 4 fit your issues? Especially after a cold start these would be very noticeable.

Among the symptoms of a bad catalytic converter are:
    • Sluggish engine performance
    • Reduced acceleration
    • Dark exhaust smoke
    • The smell of sulfur or rotten eggs from the exhaust
    • Excessive heat under the vehicle

The main reasons you’d get exhaust smell would either be your in a crewmax and the rear window is down, or an exhaust leak at a junction closer to the cab.

Of course there are other possibilities, but the absence of any sort of CEL reduces the likelihood of that.

FYI, I’m not trying to be an ass or sarcastic, I don’t recall how many times someone noted exhaust smell in either 4Runners or Tundras only to be that they had only had the truck for a short time and didn’t realize the rear window being open pulls that exhaust back in.

If it’s a leak and it’s that bad, that you’re getting a strong odor you should be able to see some carbon building up at a flange. You can also try holding a lighter rear the flanges while some one revs the motor, escaping pressure will distort the flame. Be mindful of any flammable residue of course, lol.
