I apologize if this was covered somewhere on the forum but couldn’t find anything. My ‘07 CM with 145k had the trans crap out. Now, I know you all know this is an expensive fix and I’m reading that a successful rebuild is expected 30k-40k miles. To me, that’s not acceptable. Might have to get a reman from Toyota. Should it last 145k+?
Can anyone chime in from experience? This is gonna hurt my wallet so I want to know what the esteemed members of the forum have to say. Again, my apologies if this has been covered a million times.

    Thank you!!!

I know nothing about the lifespan but would think a properly remanned transmission would last 200k+

Mine died on my '10 CM at 17x,xxx after I changed the fluid about 2k prior. The shop, that did nothing but transmissions said it was 5k to reman. I found an 80k from a 2018 and with install and a 3k/year warranty from LKQ spent slightly over 2k total. (including the rear main seal)

    Good luck

Mine is at a trans only shop. I think my options are limited because I think that only an ‘07 or ‘08 work in mine. Yeah, I’m looking at around $4k for a rebuild and $5400 for an oem reman. No good way to slice this turd.
How did it feel after the swap? I’m wondering if I ever had the full capabilities of a solid trans. Did mpg improve?
    Thanks!!!

    Thank you!
I drove it to the dealership because it was shifting out of first around 3k rpms with very little power. Still had reverse. They had it on a lift for 45 min and in the time they checked fluid and hooked it up to the computer it lost 1st gear, reverse and lurched forward in neutral. Were they holding the grenade when it went off or looking for a commission? This sucks

I complained about a noise in the driveline with 7k miles on my '20, and Toyota replaced the trans with a Toyota reman. Thought it was a little strange to get a reman for such a new vehicle, but if there are any problems in the future I'd expect them to take care of it.

Also, I'd hope a Toyota reman would fix any design issues the trans has.

I feel your pain a bit, been through trans repair expenses. Just wait until some of these newer models of 8 and 10 spds start going South. Gonna be really expensive to fix.

I’m definitely leaning towards a reman. But the dealerships will never get my business. Have to go with oem shipped from Chicago because apparently Jasper won’t have any until the new year.

Reman vs rebuilt comes down to a few simple things to me - quality of parts/builder

Reman to me is a “complete” overhaul of a trans that is swapped vs a rebuild which is a replacement of damaged components using the original.

Either SHOULD last 65-100k miles properly done. Obviously a reman with all new components should last longer - but reality is it may last the same life.

150k is typical - but a lot depends on how it’s used/is it maintained. If the truck is in overall good/great shape and you anticipate keeping 5+ years - reman, if not rebuild it and move on.

Ok. The truck is in great shape and I do plan on keeping it for a while. Only had it 1.5 yrs. Not ready to move on yet. Still smitten

I would be calling the junkyards local to you to see what's available used and asking the experts what years will interchange with your truck. A new OE torque converter and a transmission pulled from a truck with under 100,000 miles would be worth considering.

Ran my 08 DC LB overloaded, new tires every year because sidewalls wore out from weight, up to 275,000 miles. Put a used 70k mile tranny in, $1400, and now am at 445k. Used Toyota is like an open box deal, new but reliably used. Been through about 5 starters though. I would get used again without hesitation. Still use this truck every day of the week but did grab a new 2021 DC LB ...just in case. Good luck either way.

I bit the golden bullet and had a jasper reman put in. Great warranty but goddamn I’ve got another truck payment.
