Hello, new to the forum. Wonder if anyone has experience towing with a 3rd Gen Sequoia? The specs look good for my situation. I am currently towing a 4,000 lbs single-axle travel trailer with 550 lbs. tongue weight using a 4 cyl. Q7. I’m at the weight limits. Looks like the Sequoia would handle twice the weight I pull, but wonder if anyone has any experience with handling, acceleration, mountains, braking, rear sag, etc…

I towed my 6,000# dual axle travel trailer this weekend 600 miles and was very impressed. Tongue weight is sitting around 750# running an Andersen WDH with Tuson sway controller. I spent some time at a CAT scale to get everything set up correctly. The Sequoia has a lot more power than my previous Tundra which is really nice for the mountains of Colorado. The Sequoia's shorter wheelbase was noticeable during bad crosswinds though, manifesting itself in a little instability compared to the Tundra that was remedied by going a little slower. Fuel economy while towing was better in the Sequoia, but the smaller fuel tank meant I was stopping at the same mileage interval as my Tundra, which is fine with 2 kiddos and 2 dogs. However, the smaller V6 doesn't have the same engine brake capability as the Tundra, which took some getting used to. I did experience an issue with the trailer brake controller in the Sequoia, which I am bringing into my local dealership this week to have them look at.

Even with all the correct setting input into the vehicle, the trailer brakes would lock up under moderate braking when the gain was set any higher than 2.5. With the gain at 2.5 I feel the trailer brakes aren't doing anything, but when set to 3 they lock up under moderate braking. In my Tundra (with OEM trailer brake controller) I had to set the gain to 8.5 in order to lock up my trailer's brakes.

It's hard to beat the combination of the compression braking AND exhaust braking in the GM Duramax powertrain for 1/2 ton based vehicles.
