I have an Extang Trifecta 2.0 tonneau cover that I admittedly bought used. The price was right-$180 and cosmetically its in perfect-like new condition. However, the so-called “EZ Lock” clamp near the tailgate side that is supposed to lock the cover down, does not lock. The clamps are spring loaded, so there is enough tension to keep the cover down on the rails but it doesn’t lock down like it’s supposed to. I can easily lift it up a few inches near the tailgate. I was going to buy new clamps, but would like to see if anyone else has the same issue before doing so. Anyone else have an Extang cover with the “EZ Lock” clamps that don’t lock?

This shows how the “EZ Clamp” is supposed to operate. I wish it had the standard lock down style clamp instead of this, but it is what it is.

I had one in my days, and ran into the same issue, found this thread in posted Tacoma world might help you.

I thought about this but found a way to tighten the original clamps- I used a 3/4" nylon spacer between the nut and the spring. I also bought a cheap 10mm deep socket and ratchet and keep it in the truck.
I have the rear clamps pretty tight but I can still remove them. When I want I can tighten them up and it's much more secure now.

I have that cover, it’s only 1 1/2 years old and have never had that problem. I would order new E-z lock clamps. I think that will solve your problem.

Doesn’t it have a nut on the bottom of the clamp that allows you to adjust tension?

You should be able to turn them to for more or less tension.

From memory that is what I thought as well, but it has been awhile.

Thanks guys. I’ll try to tighten them down, but I’m not sure that will help as it seems the locking tabs aren’t engaging as they should.

The extangs aren’t super tight. But they’re dry. None of the foldable tonneau covers are really “secure”. A coat hanger can open most. Yours at least has to be broken to open.

I have a gator trifold which is made extang you should be able to turn the handle to adjust tension. If it is all the way tight and still loose your spring is worn out.’ And will need replaced.
