Hey guys, looking to purchase my first new tires after the stock ones that came with the car. Decided that I am going to get either 275/55/20 or 275/60/20 size for the Falken Widlpeak A/T3W.

I spoke with some guys at Discount Tire/Tire Rack and confirmed that 275/60/20 is the biggest size I can go without any rubbing (no lift kit on my car). Think I can also go wider @285 but the price goes up a lot so going to pass on going wider.

I was wondering if anyone had experience in both sizes 60 vs 55 and what they liked better. Doesn't have to be specifically Falkens was just curious about the sizes in particular. Also wondering if there was a big difference between Standard Load (SL) vs Extra Load (XL)? I do plan on towing here in there but not all the time.
    • 275/55/R20 Extra Load (XL) 117T
    • 275/60/R20 Standard Load (SL) 115T

My vote is for the 275/60/20.
I'm running Discount Tire's Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT | Discount Tire in that size.

My truck came stock with 285/55/20 BFG KOs, and then I bought KO2s in 275/60/20.
The Goodyears are my third set of tires, very happy with the size and the tire.
The 285/55/20 were shorter and wider, I prefer the narrower tire.
I feel the truck turns easier.
The Godyears are quieter than the KO or KO2s.

The Goodyears are SL rated (in 275/60/55) and the KO2s were D rated, the SL is a noticeably smoother ride.
I actually had the intention of buying Cooper AT3 XLTs, but the DT salesman mentioned the Goodyears.
I figured if I didn't like them I'd have 30 days to come back and get the Coopers, but I like them and kept them.

    Good luck.

I previously had 275/60r20 Falken Wildpeaks SL. Great tires, even wear, balanced well, rode about as good as you can expect for that beefy of a tire. Just not for me and my pavement queen. Noticed truck was downshifting more on the hwy. Fuel mpg dropped, maybe because it looked sweet and needed to be driven faster, YMMV. But switched to Michelin Defender LTX M/S 265/70r18 and very happy with my choice. Suits my needs better.

EDIT: I forgot to add, I did have a slight amount of rubbing in reverse at full lock with the Wildpeaks.

Very interesting! My truck came stock with the WRANGLER DURATRAC 275/55/20.
I had no issues except they were a bit loud and also lost traction a couple of times in the rain which is the reason why I didn't like them.

I'm glad you told me about how you're able to turn easier now. I feel like I'd like the taller, narrower tire as well.
Pretty sure getting a "D" rating would be overkill for me and the "SL" or "XL" would be good for my needs!

I've found the Cooper AT3 4S 275/55r20 to be decent for the price point at DT. While tread wear isn't noticeable, with 40k miles on it, it's starting to lose grip over the winter. I'm considering going with the Michellin Defender LTX for a quieter ride since I'm mostly on pavement.
