Originally was using basic EQ on stock JBL HU going to a DSR1 with no adjustments there and all x-over settings on amp - HPF for doors with X-over frequenct. I decided to put the three EQ setting on the stock HU to the middle and put the doors to full passthrough on amp and adjust x-overs and EQ via DSR1.

Obviously this allows a lot more control - both x-over frequencies as well as slope. I generally decreased the Q so adjustments resulted in a smoother curve. With the advanced EQ there are too many adjustments. This took me some time. I increased bass drum frequencies, left mids alone and increased highs a little - standard "wave" looking EQ - it sounds good. The other nice thing is you can mute all the other speakers and work on just one pair at a time. Once you get that EQ curve, you can overlay it on other EQ curves for other speakers to help match say front and rear doors. You can also adjust the volume of speaker pairs. There's no option to turn on full passthrough for the sub so I'm still setting the x-over frequency on the amp.

I've tried using time alignment several times but never had much luck. I used a tape measure with the RR door being the furthest, then the sub, then RF door, LF door and closest is the LR door. I'm guess that means the speaker furthest away should have no delay and the speakers closest should have the most delay. When you input distance values and switch to msecs, the DSR1 does the opposite - the speaker furtherest away has the greatest delay and the one closest the least. Isn't the point to factor in the time it takes the sound from different distances to reach the ear? Why would it delay the speakers the furthest away the most? The result is echoing with the bass being totally out of phase with the doors. When I turn all the delays off everything is synced and hits at the same time. The idea is cool but for me it just results in a totally disjointed sound.

Interesting stuff. I feel like something is off with mine too. (DSR-1, 5ch amp, better sub but stock speakers for now) Dash speakers are too bright and overall sounds muddy. Not sure if that's because i'm still using stock speakers or if settings on DSR1 need to be tweaked. Mine was "pre-programmed" by James when I bought it but honestly don't even know yet what that means.

I ended up turning the trim level down on the front door/dash speakers in the DSR1 - I only decreased it 1.5dB but it takes away the harsher highs at higher volumes and allows me to set the sub to kick like I want it to. My Hertz K170s and Kenwood dashes definitely do not sound muddy.
