    Good evening all,

Just want to start by saying, I’ve recently made an account but I have been following these forums for 10+ years with tips and advice passed down from the great minds that embody this forum and I have a decently extensive background in automotive repair. I maintain a small fleet of around 8 Toyotas varying from older Supras, MR2s to a couple old first gen tundras.

Which brings me to the reason for this post,
I recently hauled a 2004 Tundras Double Cab SR5 4x4 4.7 out of an old farmers barn that hadn’t ran in a couple years. Cleaned up pretty nicely after switching out the starter and jumping the starter relay to auxiliary power (fused) to a push button in the cab. This is all due to when I bought the truck it had a code for the Neutral Safety Switch being out and i assumed it was the reason why it would cut off when you put it in an gear after turning it on, gear selection lights wouldn’t pop up etc. All typical signs of the switch being out.

Long story short I wait a few weeks and get an OEM one using the VIN to verify fitment. I get the old one off and the new one on, very carefully. Successfully got it on and plugged in with new relay in the box, and the trucks engine still starts up fine, then dies when you put it in any gear. The gear selection lights begin to work and it seems fixed, but still cuts off after selecting a gear. I’ve checked all the fuses in the boxes both inside and in the engine bay related to the first gen in the EWD for the 04 double cab and all show continuity. I even verified with a high end scanner that the truck knows what gear it’s in so the switch is lined up. This work was all done in neutral.

Anyways I was hoping if anyone would chime in and offer some insight on this, I also was wondering if anyone had any Toyota knowledge if this needs to be reflashed or reprogrammed at the dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime I’ll still be using my push start jury rig. I’m not picky for a 2k truck but with 150k miles, loads of dings, but no rust underneath it

I just also add onto here that that truck runs and drives perfect when auxiliary started. So that should rule out any comments about the torque converter being stuck (as I’ve read it that is a problem in rare first gens)

    Two questions:

Do you have a copy of the FSM? I’m sure you know this since you’ve been here for a while, but there is a central place where we keep all service and similar info here.

Are you aware of proper clocking of the NSS? I’m fairly certain there’s a very specific orientation they need to be in for proper operation. I would assume that’s in FSM but I’m not in a place where I can easily check.

A340 Repair Manual can be found HERE.

Here's a copy of the FSM. All A340 info can be found from pages 408-448

HINT: DIAG TIPS FOUND STARTING ON PAGE DI-384

I think this is what I was thinking of, on DI-390 of the FSM. I believe this is what @N3ST3R needs to do.

But recognize this would be another way to validate the NSS/PNP/WTFever

These are both very helpful replies, thanks you for the prompt responses. I will reference this FSM and have the truck on the lift tomorrow doing a brake overhaul, fuel filter and a few smaller things. During this time I will reference this for the NSS. Been snowed in for a few days here in SW VA.
