As the title says I'm going to bite the bullet and do my oil changes instead of taking it to dealer on my 21 tundra sr5 cm. Never done a oil change in my life other than changing my lawn movers oil twice a year. After watching some videos I found out it's not so much different and I can handle this. Went and bought me a rhino plastic ramps that supposed to support 12000 lbs. bigger oil catching pan and Ordered me a fumoto f133s drain valve. Also ordered some filters through the dealer. Just received the valve yesterday and going to install tomorrow after the draining the oil. I have only one question. My garage is full of stuff and so I'm gonna attempt to do the process at my driveway. My driveway have a little incline on it. Being inclined and front of the vehicle staying high on the ramp is that too much for oil change? Thank you all for your time reading this

Maybe back in and use the ramps on the downslope to make it more level?

If you're gonna use ramps on a sloped driveway, use a wheel chock. You'll be fine doing an oil change on an incline, just check your oil level on level ground

Or get a manual, check how much oil capacity it recommends with oil and oil filter change and put that
    much in.
Go buy a bag of floor absorb mats, so you can throw them down to absorb oil spills.
Be very careful with torque specs on filters and things, some of these are plastic parts and
don't need force they need finesse.

I thought about that and use wheel chocks for both back tires.

Yes forgot to write on first message also purchased 2 big wheel chocks since what I already had was small for mowers. When we check the oil after doing the change should I drive little before check it and it should be at the "f" right?

Dont forget to check torque specs on the oil filter housing and oil filter housing drain plug, and dont mix the two. I did t hat once and had a butt pucker moment, but no harm.

If you haven't already, get one of these too: Toyota 2.0L - 5.7L Oil Filter Wrench and Drain Tool Bundle - Motivx Tools

Knockoffs on Amazon work too. I use that for draining the filter, and the wrench part is super nice for unscrewing the old filter and torqueing the new one correctly if you're worried about that vs hand tight. I use a Valvomax instead of a Fumoto because it has the hose, although you can get a hose for the Fumoto too, I just liked that the Valvomax one screws on, hoses are nice in my opinion, I have a few oil jugs I drain the hoses from the filter and oil pan into directly, that way I don't have to transfer it and can just cap the jugs and take them to an autoparts store to dump.

Like @rheosibal said use wheel chocks as well, can get them cheap at Harbor Freight and anytime you're putting a vehicle on ramps or jacking it up it doesn't hurt to use them.

I believe one of the video I watched the person mentioned 8.5 quarts with filter, 8 quarts without filter. About torque specs I wrote it down. I do not own a professional torque wrench but I do own one from harbor freight click type torque wrench. I believe you follow fumotos torque specs for drain valve which says on the paper hand tightened than 1/8 of turn

I didn't get the whole set but I bought motive x oil filter wrench and screw funnel. I figure I can save some money by using Toyota supplied little tool to drain the oil filter

If you have the skid plate with the access door, I struggled so much removing the plastic drain tool that Toyota includes. After 2 changes using it, i bought this and love it, it's a knock off of the Motivix
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088LX23ZC/?coliid=I3CEZCFN2DGSA0&colid=EE42AJHADBEF

If you use the plastic tool, get an empty wine bottle (or equivalent). The tool sits in the opening and the bottle gives you the leverage to 'pop' the tool into place and then the oil drains right into the bottle.

I have the same one @RobertD linked but I don't have the funnel, works totally good for my needs. Most annoying thing to me about the whole process is the skid plate.

oil changes are easy. just double check things. don't over tighten. once you get the valve on after this oil change, driving the vehicle to warm up the oil helps it flow a bit faster. the valve has a smaller hole to drain out of, so it takes a bit. i personally rotate my tires while changing the oil, so i start draining then go rotate tires (just trying to be efficient with my time).
one thing i'll say about changing in the driveway out in the open is the wind. sometimes a gust of wind or steady wind will make the oil splatter outside of the drain pan, especially once towards the end and the drain trickle is a smaller width than full flow. i've drained oil on my previous 2011 tundra, 2017 tundra, and now 2021 sequoia (all of them 5.7L's) and had same experience with all. although sequoia is easier since the pro skid plate, i only take out the cover over the oil filter.
getting the pieces that adapt and connect to your filter or a hose that connects to your drain valve helps eliminate a lot of mess too!

do you have the oil filter removal tool to get the canister off?

In addition to the Motivx kit, I'd suggest using a 5 gal bucket to catch the oil from the drain instead of a normal drain pan. What will happen is the flow from the drain will hit the drain pan with force and splash onto your passenger tire (and driveway). The bucket will prevent that from happening.

Was thinking about going to Lowe's and buy one of those measuring buckets I believe they 5 gallon with measurements print on it. So I can see how much fluid I drained etc.

Thank you. I used free oil changes through dealer covered under Toyota care. When I realized one of the screws that hold skid plate is missing I finally said to myself it's time to learn and take care of your own business. I read so many people had bad experiences with dealers I never thought mine will become one of those dealers. I believe there's hardly anybody will care about your vehicle as much as you do.

Obviously size dependent but I don't lift my truck at all when doing an oil change. Stock height I can slide under and get it done.

Same ... I don't lift it or take skid plate off to change oil. I also don't use Fumoto valves as that's probably going to be the next Tic Tok challenge.

Better hope your dealer didn’t have the Incredible Hulk tighten your oil filter housing. A couple of folks on here have ran into issues where the housing is on there so tight they can’t get it off without breaking it.

I hope not I'm going to find out

Unfortunately my truck is stock hight and I'm pretty big to slide underneath there. So there is no other option for me. Unless I loose 100 lbs lol

Where do you live OP? If you're local to So Cal, you can use my garage and tools. I got homemade ramps that give you plenty of lift. I'm a big guy too with stock height and can get completely under my truck.
I also bought those rhino ramps at first but ended up building my own for extra safety. I suggest still using Jack stands just as a precaution.

Thank you for the offer. I appreciate it. Unfortunately I live in mid GA area. It would be awesome if was close to you.

I watched that video when I was watching how to change oil videos. It's a really good trick.

Just take your time and check your work! You will be fine.

Don’t do what I did and put the o-ring on the wrong lip……then start the truck to back out of the garage and have an absolute blowout. Took me two hours to clean it up and not kill myself walking in the garage / driveway

Yes I purchased the OEM from dealers. Everything was in the package. I will definitely make sure it's on the right groove before I install. Thanks for the advice.
