Flat Plane or Cross-Plane Crankshaft?

    I sometimes think that the crankshaft is a flat-plane because of it's unhindered acceleration properties...much like the Peerless V-8s from 1916-1928 (or all Ferraris).

    It's definitely not a flat plane. Flat planes offer nearly nothing in a v8... Ford just made hype with it and their voodoo engine.
    If you're talking about the 5.7 tundra accelerating well, that's due to vvti.

    Or it could be high flowing cylinder heads and variable valve timing that make a 2 valve small port pushrod V8 look like a boat anchor.
