Hello everyone! This is my first question on the forum. The foam seat pad back (Toyota 71552-0C030 Pad, Front Seat Back,LH) on my 2002 tundra SR5 split on the panel closest to the driver’s door and now I have a metal bar running vertically that pushes into my back when I drive and it’s getting pretty annoying.

Will a foam seat pad from a 05-06 SR5 work in place of the 00-04 SR5 pad?

Toyota Parts told me they don’t make the 00-04 foam pads anymore and that they think that the 05-06 foam pads won’t fit on the 02; it’s true that there is a different model number for the 05-06 (Toyota 71552-0C110 Pad, Front Seat Back, LH), but when I compare them they look about the same to me.

The only pad that I could find at the local junk yards that isn’t already also split is one from an 06, so I’m hoping somebody here will say that it will work before I buy it and try it. Thanks!

I would also ask an upholstry shop for an opinion and estimate. You could also try swapping the passenger seat cushion to the driver's side.

I replaced the bottom seat cushion on my 2003 tundra last summer, and I found the fitting and assembly to be a very tight fit. So if the replacement cushion is not exacty right, it could be very difficult to reassemble the seat correctly.

I dunno, I added to cart and one of my local dealerships knocks almost $100 off. Still not a "killer" deal, but you're getting straight-up OEM with no question about fitment. Peace of mind on perfect fitment and OEM results may be worth it for some ...

But yeah, the seat covers are just about ludicrous.

Most upholstery shop will charge you $800/seat for foams and leathers and foams, minimum, for a basic job. If you get hogring pliers, then order OEM parts with discount, you may be able to save a few bucks and get OEM.

Have you considered maybe tilting the seat with seat risers? I made my own and it is a massive difference in comfort.

I think I still have a 3/4" rise set laying around if you want or someone wants it. 1" ones I first did to match the ones available were too much for me.

In my case, all of my seats are mint except the front driver's seat. The seat bolster and back bolster are both split/rubbed through. I'd love to just replace those.

Thing is, I think I'm out like $1200 to get OEM leather bottom, armrest, and back. I really wish TheSeatShop would start making covers, they're the best OEM-accurate on the market. One of their people told me this time last year to keep my eyes peeled b/c they'd have 1sg Gen leathers available in 2022. But then, when we got to mid-year and I still saw nothing, I replied-all to that same email chain, only to have another employee tell me they had no intent to make 1st Gen covers! So weird.

Actually, looks like you can't even get an armrest cover ... you hafta buy the full assembly! Only ~$400!

I've noticed it definitely depends on who you talk with in a company. I ran into the same kind of issue in looking for an aftermarket replacement rear bumper. I purchased my Tundra with a crunched bumper, and trying to find a first gen aftermarket that wasn't a pre-runner style has been maddening. Then I found a small company that said they still make them on a limited basis but it would be a few months and to reach out again. I reached out, and like you I was told the have no intentions of making any more 1st gen bumpers. Blah! I know finding reliable aftermarket resources for our first gen's are becoming more difficult to find. I hope you're able to find a reliable resource for your seats. You might have to go locally to an Upholstery shop to have them re- pad and cover your seat. Just an idea. Might be cheaper then ordering all new parts to put together yourself.

Yeah, local shop will do it. I got quoted $850 to rebuild the driver's seat, but they couldn't guarantee the leather would match, and it was $100 extra to have the seatback pocket (which I use). I can get the genuine OEM replacement for the bottom and back leathers for around $750 if I shop thru McGeorge Toyota. Tossing in the armrest assembly jacks that up by about 50% though. This is a dealership south of me in McDonough GA that has solid pricing, and though these aren't the right part numbers (I think this is for leather non-power captains chairs, mine are powered), it gives you the idea of what below-MSRP would run per-seat ... I may end up trying to track down the exact p/n, and buy a nicer set of hogring pliers, do the deet myself.
