    Hi everyone,

I need to know. I'm a not so proud owner of a Ford F250 Super Duty, single cab, long bed. I want a truck with a crew cab and have been thinking about getting a Tundra ( We're a Toyota family, except for the Ford mistake), but I don't want to lose the long bed. If I get the double cab with long bed, I get the bed but little legroom (how cramped is that back seat?). If I get the CrewMax, I get amazing legroom, but a tiny bed. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any regrets?

Love my CrewMax and my bed extender if I need the extra bed space.

Go sit in one. Never had anyone complain about legroom in my DC.

I think the DC legroom is adequate for kiddos and average size adults, not the best for car seats, especially if rear facing. The DC may not be ideal for longer trips with older kids or adults.

Many suggest a bed extender for Crewmax to lengthen bed when needed.

    Welcome CaliNA,

Thats a predicament. We've joked about the long bed on a CM and even floated a picture of a retrofit (or some crafty editing). It's just too long to move around town, parking etc. Your question is somewhat relative to your family's size. Anything is better than a single cab, but you'll need the feedback of our extended cab, long bed folks. Plenty are on, the question is how quick will they respond to to the F250 title..
IMHO, the extended cab is sufficient but I'm comparing it to the barn that is the CM. Several here use your desired configuration for family. More will chime in soon.

Welcome from Ohio. I have a family of four and we all love the room of the CrewMax if I have to haul anything really long I just hook up a trailer. For me the comfort way out weights the bed length.

^^^ What he said. The space in the crew max is amazing and I use the AMP bed extender all the time to compensate for the shorter bed.

This guy is coming from an F250, a crewmax with its mini bed is not an option, those things are a joke. Esp if hes currently got a real full sized bed.

To the OP, the tundra is a different tool for the job than an F250. Tundra being far less capable truck, but it will prob be drama free ownership.
The back seat in the double cab isnt that bad, its zero frills. There is adult leg room for medium trips but I wouldnt want to be back there for long. Plenty of room for kids, there are car seat anchors. The floor is flatter than crewmax which is helpful for loading items. When the seat is folded up, the floor is interrupted with seat brackets, and there is limited space in front of those brackets.

(I ended up removing the entire back seat out of my Double Cab to allow more space for the dog to lay down, and gear. prob isnt an option for most though.)

Been driving a 2002 f250 7.3l diesel for last 12 years . Bought a new crew max last week.
I was working about the shorter bed length when looking at them .
And almost bought a double cab with 6'6" bed.
So far I don't regret the smaller bed of crew .
The interior size isn't a plus for me .
Kids or grown . And I'm in truck alone 99%of the time .
But large rear seating is nice for storing my junk . If I need to haul something that won't fit in bed I have 3 different length trailers to use .
I would like a headache rack in case I want to haul longer boards or something like that.

Depends on how big you are. Many on here will say that the legroom in the back of a DC is "ok" for most adults. That may be the case for average size or smaller adults. For tall people, the legroom in the back seat of the DC is pathetic.

Someone touched on it earlier, but the payload for the Tundra is not very much - it is actually pretty laughable. So, if you are intending to work the truck, keep that in mind - not nearly as capable as an F250. I have a CrewMax (got it for the legroom - we are big people), and if I have my family with me, I only have about 500 lbs of payload to play with.

The bed on my crew cab is too damned small. But the back seat is like a limo.

Sorry about the F250. I have always liked the look and performance of those. Good luck

I took a different path with my crewmax... I put a diamondback tonneau on it. With the roll down rear window and the headrests removed, I can slide longer things through and it does fine. My other thoughts are that I don't haul stone or nasty things in the bed of a $45k truck. I use a $1500 trailer for that. If I screw up a trailer I'm pissed, but not broke. If you look in diamondback's outlet they usually have a few for the tundra.

Welcome to the forum. I am impressed by the leg room in my DC back seat. I have to agree about the car seat, though if you put the rear facing in the middle it does work, however it's a pain to get the kiddo in and out. My kids are all forward facing now so it's perfect.

I did an hour ride in the back of my brother's DC, the truck packed with six people, and not small people. I didn't consider the leg room inadequate personally.
