Yesterday, I removed my cabin filter to replace it with a new K&N filter and found the missing dog food along with a mouse nest! Damm Mice! Just two weeks ago, I found a mouse nest in the FJ Cruiser’s cabin filter. Since the FJ hasn’t been driven in months, I expected some mess. However, the Tundra is driven daily.
Has anyone figured out how the mice are getting to the cabin filter? Cabin Filter 2.jpg

Probably through your cowl. You can see huge openings in the firewall where a Mack truck could fit. Seal those areas and you'll be better off

I know the 2nd gen has a huge hole in the engine cowl/firewall on the passenger side.

I removed the cowl and sealed that hole off with chicken wire on my second gen’s. After I did that, I wasn’t finding any dog food in my cabin air filter.

worth a shot to check the cowl area on the 3rd gen.

Hopefully that mouse didn’t chew any wires. Had something chew the power wires to my windshield wiper motor as well as dig a nest in the dash insulation on my old GMC. That was nearly a dangerous situation, as I only noticed when I tried to clean the windshield and they didn’t work. Had I been in a snowstorm or rain and found out it could have been very unsafe. Set some traps or better yet if you can get the dog food out of the garage, do it. Years ago I tried that and ended up with mice, rats and even raccoons coming through the dog door on the garage and it was an exceptionally grand mess. I got pretty good at executing critters, but there are better uses of my time.

There is a thread somewhere here on Tundras.com about a guy who was dreadfully sick and finally they found that his fresh air filter was full of mice feces and urine. I will try to find it. Nothing to mess around with IMO.

After I bought my 08’, I found leaves ,dog food and M&M’s in cabin filter. Honda makes a spray for the engine hose foam to keep mice from eating it. The foam is a plant product now. Go figure. Good luck. D

I have similar experience when I opened the hood on my GTR, lots of dog food were pouring out of the two scoops from the hood. I never found the culprit.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know my 2015 Tundra had a cabin filter. While on vacation in Florida with my wife and 2 large dogs, I noticed my AC was barely blowing any air with the fan on high. I was convinced the AC system was shooting craps.

When a buddy mentioned checking the cabin filter, I was like "Huh?". Sure enough, the 7 year old filter was absolutely filthy and covered with dog hair. When I pulled it out, the air blowing out of the vents parted my hair. I was so happy.

As for mice, I've had good luck with these for the various vehicles in my barn. They don't smell awful, and seem to be effective for a long time. Screen Shot 2025-01-18 at 9.25.51 AM.png

I just had my 10,000 mile service done. Results..... Oil good. Oil filter element inspected & clean, tires rotated & in great condition, Cabin filter chewed up by rodents, needs to be replaced, effected lines to be cleaned of feces & urine, screens to be added.

    ouch

Feed A couple of outdoor cats every couple of nights so they cruise thru your property looking for food it will take care of your rodent issue.
