    Hey Gen 3 Tundra owners,

For the second time in a year, I'm getting a "Front Camera malfunction. See owners manual" error message. It usually happens after about 10 minutes of driving. It disables the radar cruise and collision detection features. If I stop and re-start the engine, it goes away temporarily, then comes back.

The problem is not related to an obstruction of the camera. I've re-checked that numerous times. It's also not related to frost, fog, rain, or any other climatic condition. It self-corrected for 5 months after the first time, but now it has returned.

It's a problematic warranty claim because of its intermittent nature. I'm sure if I took it to the dealership, they'd claim they can't reproduce the problem. I have taken pics of the error message, but that usually isn't enough for them, in my experience.

Have any of you experienced this problem and found a lasting solution to it?

    Thanks

I’d take a picture or video when it’s happening and show it to dealer.

Secondly, even if it isn’t active when you bring it in for service. The truck should have a stored DTC.

If you have access to an OBD reader like Carista or Bluedriver, you could hook it up when the vehicle is still running displaying the message. It might show any active codes related to that error to help with pinpointing it.

Thanks! I do have both a OBD reader and Carista.

I used the OBD reader to pull the codes on my wife's '22 4runner when it threw a check engine light. The codes related to the evaporative emissions system. On the way to the dealership the check engine light went off. They wouldn't even look at it, even though I had the codes, and a pic of the check engine light. Fortunately, the problem hasn't returned.

I assumed I'd get the same runaround on my Tundra's front camera problem.
