Lately, I have had near misses turning left onto a street while another vehicle was approaching from the right on that same street. Cause: Passenger side A-Pillar obscures or blocks the view.

Does anybody know if there is a way to enable a Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA) System using the front proximity sensors that will work just like the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) System ? Firmware Upgrade or Aftermarket solution ? Extend Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) to include this feature ?

    TIA,

    Dan C.

Man I totally get it. I’ve slammed on the brakes because a fast moving, smaller car was fully obscured by my passenger mirror at the exact second that I looked. It’s such a massive blind spot.

Haven’t heard of a front CTA system. I think they just expect us to use our eyes, lol. You just gotta get used to giving it an extra good look and wait a half a second longer. Be safe out there!

Out of the box? No. Why? The base system doesn't have this feature you describe so there isn't anything that is OEM plug and play. The range of the parking sensors (proximity sensors as you call them) is very short and limited; extends less than 3' or so.

If you went with a radar based solution some of the manufacturers of BSM/Radar sensors have APIs for their sensor. The code to run it would have to be custom code to set up alert parameters and interpret what the radar is seeing etc.

If you went with a camera based system you could also do it with computer vision fed by cameras. The agent would alert you of recognized hazards within it's field of view.

Thanks. Just beating the bushes to find all options. Will probably go with an aftermarket radar solution. I have additional mirrors mounted on the grill guard, and have additional ports in the bumper for sensors as well (only 2 used, 4 in total).
