Hey guys, I seemed to have blown out both my front diff seals after some hard wheeling yesterday. It's leaking on both sides, dripping on the cardboard I have underneath it, probably a few ounces so far. I believe the parts numbers I need are as follows, but feel free to correct me

    90311-47027 left seal

    90311-47013 right seal

I'll be upgrading to the ecgs bushing while I'm in there, but I want to get the seal from toyota. Is there any other seals, etc I should replace while I'm in there? I appreciate any insight! Just wanna make sure I'm on the right track.20220501_093420.jpg 20220501_093433.jpg 20220430_172316.jpg

Ordered the 2 seals this morning, they'll be available for pick up tomorrow at the dealership. I'll tackle the seals once I replace the alternator (it finally gave up after the huge mud hole) and I'll keep everyone posted on whether it fixes it or not.

You check the breather for the front diff? If it’s clogged up the pressure from the heated fluid could be causing the seals to fail.

It's pretty high up on the firewall so it should be fine unless he totally submerged his engine bay

Judging by that pic he may have totally submerged his headliner too

If it gets muddy, it could get plugged up. Mid will definitely splash up to there. Believe me.

I don't *think* I submerged it. I'll post a pic showing how deep it was, I hit it pretty fucking hard though, I was the only one who didn't get stuck in a full size vehicle. It's a beast of a truck. I'll check out the breather and see if it's clogged20220430_172233.jpg 20220430_164136.jpg

I'll call the dealership and get them ordered. Any special tool I need for this job? I think I read that I need a 35mm socket?

My man! It was a blast. Had a big crowd watching watching too, cause once the jeep got stuck, we held up a group of side by side riders. They were placing their bets on who would and wouldn't make it. The tundra prevailed!

We burned through a 1/4 tank in about 6 hrs (26 gal tank) so it wasn't too expensive.....until I got home and my seals were leaking and alternator was toast lol

I just used a 2x4 block to evenly set them in place. Don’t over do it or the wire spring inside the seal will bust out.

The breather lines weren't clogged, I made a post about all the breather lines in the engine bay here

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/breather-line-location-guide.106788/

I got the alternator installed, took around 2 hours. Both seals came in today as well, but the dust covers won't be here till tomorrow or Thursday. I picked up a 39mm socket to remove the axle so I can replace the seals and install the ecgs bushing.

Looks like I got water in my front diff when the seals popped. Pulled a sample out of the drip container I have underneath the diff, and its slightly milky looking compared to a sample out of a new container. I just changed it 4k miles ago too.20220504_165524.jpg 20220504_165558.jpg

Got the passenger side CV removed. Still waiting on my parts from ECGS. Fed ex dropped the ball on that one. The CV seems to have a groove in it from the seal, but I dont think it's an immediate issue, alot of sand and dirt was in the seal causing the leak. 20220505_172840.jpg 20220505_173015.jpg

So quick question for someone who may have the specs for this. I was installing the passenger side seal, and it isn't supposed to seat all the way. Whats the specs on seating it? I drove it in a touch too far from what I could tell. I was able to get a random old bracket I had and very gently pry the seal back out without damaging it. Worked better than a seal puller.

When I grabbed my calipers to get measurements from the lip to the seal, it wasn't even on top, bottom, left, and right, maybe .3-.5 mm off (5.43mm-5.89mm). I'm guessing my differential casing isn't perfectly flat on the lip. The seal is even all the way around on the machined surface inside the lip though.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it. But I'd like to get it done right the first time.

Just an update. Finally got the truck finished on Friday after fed ex finally delivered the goodies from ECGS. My overnight shipping took 3 days  all seems to be well, no leaks or strange noises. All in all, it wasn't too bad. Once I got the seal installer from ECGS I as able to see my mistake installing the seal and was able to get it corrected.

The bottom of the diff still has some dirt/mud in it I couldn't get out. But I plan on changing the fluid again soon anyway just for good measure. I'll probably rig up a recirculating pump set up next fluid change so I can flush out the diff case with mineral spirits. I didn't wanna use brake cleaner because it's a little too harsh on seals.

Doing CV Axle seals myself, any update on how far the seals get driven in? I did the passenger side and drive it all the way to the inner lip because it sits flush. No leaks yet, but want to know the specs for both driver and passenger sides.

Measure the seal depth with calipers before you pull it out. Before I replaced my ECGS, I tried to find that info and couldn’t find anything but “don’t push it too far”. I matched existing and no leaks.

Thanks, I should’ve measured beforehand but drove it flush with one of the lips. Someone else had been in there already and I wasn’t sure if the old seal was set at the right depth to begin with. I suppose I’ll wait to see if it leaks and remove/replace then as necessary.
