Simple question probably answered here before. I apologize.

Is it possible to install a front differential actuator with the forks not in the groove/slot to engage the front 4 wheel drive?
I put a new actuator in my 2000 Tundra 4x4 and the 4hi lights up (something it didn't do before) but the 4lo only flashes a amber light with beeps then reverts to 4hi. It's something I want to know before I crawl under there again and try again lol. ugh!
I know the actuator is sliding but something is wrong.
    Thank you.

Yeah, it's probably possible that the front actuator could be installed with the shift forks not on the collar. Are you sure that the 4HI is engaging properly when you press the button?

Check this thread. Tons of good information on how to diagnose 4WD issues.

I don't think it is engaging anything really. But, I see the 4/hi light is lit up (which never happened before I installed a new ADD) and not blinking indicating the fork slid over to engage the front differential. That prompted my question here...
    Thanks for the link. :)

Follow the test procedure in that thread- it'll point you in the right direction in terms of what is and isn't working. Let me know what you find!
