I don’t meant to poo poo on this but for $1300 you’re not far off from a legit bumper that actually adds functionality and protection. These types of “grill guards” aka “brush guards” are widely known as “damage multipliers” in the body shop trade. They add relatively no protection (except maybe against shipping carts) and actually cause more damage if you get into an accident then would typically happen if you didn’t have one installed.

My 2 cents…since you asked for thoughts on it.

ranch hand are pretty decent but that huge emblem ruins the whole look.

i would go with the higher end ranch hands that just dont attached with 4 bolts but they dont make them for 22+

    only for 21 or older

I would, but it's more like 1000-1200 more for the full coverage c4 for example.

Based on what I have read throughout the forum on bumpers I think the thoughts you're going to receive are if you want "full coverage" protection you're going to have to spend in the neighborhood of what you said above. If you want the appearance of full coverage protection, then if you like the ranch hand bumper you linked at yotogarge (if you shop around like all things Yotogarage you can get it cheaper elsewhere) then bolt er on and stand back and bask at the glory of your new ranch hand bumper guard...... just know you're only getting the appearance of protection and a full steel bumper with DOM tubing will give you real protection. Sure the Ranch hand will offer some protection and as @KroppDuster said it will likely cause more damage to your headlights (those bad boys are $1700/ea if you have the fancy ones) and the body will likely have more damage too in most cases. Will that ranch hand help in some cases? sure it will help a little or possibly make it worse sure. One thing that is odd is even on the Ranch hand website it doesn't actually show it installed for some reason??? hmm would be curious how that pokes through the plastics on the bumper. Have a feeling they aren't showing it installed for a reason and also why there are no install instructions either. Buy once Cry once.

Only picture I’ve got, but recently installed on my dad’s Lunar Rock SR5. It’s definitely one of the more beefy grille guard options on the market and it mounts directly to the frame crossmember in this application instead of hanging below the bumper, creating a “damage multiplier.” Well worth the addition in my opinion, though it does stick out from the front quite a bit.

Careful with those style grill guards. In an impact they tend to cause more damage than if you had nothing at all. Some are built better than others.

ranch hand is the only brand of grill guard I would trust to hit a deer. They are built solid, but still no where near the protection of a full bumper.

Goes without saying but kiss some MPG and quiet ride goodbye with any option.

Just some food for thought. Adding that much weight, with it that far out, not modifying the front end - you will go through a higher worn part interval. It will cause more frequent front end issues. Now, if you beef it up with parts designed for the abuse a heavy bumper will add, that will help.

exactly, I’ve got the heaviest fox springs they make up front and still need more pre load with 225+ of front end weight up there!

Westin- instant damage to the truck if you touch anything with it.. had one on a 4Runner and it caused lots of additional damage when I hit a deer- full front end replacement vs what would have just been a grill and lower bumper

I love it. Had no issues with install whatsoever and no issues with the front active spoiler as well

To each their own. If you think it’s money well spent, then that’s all that matters.

Side note: Hopefully you got some PPF under that large bug deflector.

I installed one exactly like yours and after installing just the lower brackets, the two big ones, the smaller ones couldn't go with the air dam, I received the front spoiler error. Nothing seems to be in the way and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Thankfully I can just unplug mine and don't need that adapter piece. Still curious as to why the dam won't work though. I can't even get it down in service mode
Added a fake hood scoop and fender flares too.

other people may find it weird, but i think it looks really good with the hood scoop, wonder if anyone is making aftermarket hoods with functional scoop, may cut down on the death glare everyone seems to get

I have heard them referred to as “damage multipliers”. I guess that makes sense. I have personally seen where what would have been a simple fender bender (maybe just bumper cover damage) turned into a hood, headlights and two fenders. If someone likes them and is willing to risk the extra damage, good on them. Drive and enjoy!!
