The location of the TWO front parking sensors on my 2021 SR5 are horrible. They are on the sides of the bumper, and will not pick-up a parked car in front of me. I think the placement Toyota picked is horrible.

I want to either add 2 additional sensors to the middle of the front bumper, or relocate the existing ones to the middle.

Has anyone attempted this? I doubt that there are additional hook-ups for more sensors, so I would most likely install two new sensors in the middle, and disconnect the two sides ones. I realize that the alert on my screen would still show the side warning, but I would know it was from the middle.

Anyone done anything like this, or have a resource to purchase 2 OEM Front sensors?

    Thanks!

    Pete

You could relocate. It would be no different than folks installing an aftermarket bumper with provisions for the sensors. The aftermarket bumpers I have seen have them facing forward so you could certainly do that by modifying your setup with new holes pointing straight vs angled. Pretty sure you can't add more sensors to the system.

Yeah, they aren't positioned well to judge where the front of the truck is but rather the corners are. I solved this by installing the anytime backup camera.

Any pics of the camera installed in the front? Did you replace the factory rear camera too?

    It uses the existing rear camera. Here's some quick pics.20220526_195106.jpg 20220526_195113.jpg 20220526_195155.jpg 20220526_195227.jpg 20220526_195255.jpg

I have mine adjusted so I can see the front bumper and the road ahead. A very, very useful feature is being able to view the rear camera at anytime. Useful for watching a trailer or doubles as a rear view mirror if the bed is full obscuring the normal rear view from the in cab rear view mirror.

Thanks for the photos and details. Do the rear camera still turn on automatically when you shift into Reverse? I think this is a great option! Thanks!

Yes, as long as the front camera isn't selected. I'm really happy with it and use it often.

What factory components did you have to access, such as the head unit, etc. to complete the install?

Pull the shift knob, shifter surround, switch panel, climate control then the head unit. Trim tool and 10mm nut driver or socket and 6-8" extension. Another trim panel on the dash in front of the pax and the pax kick panel. The website and YouTube provide good instructions.

Copy that! Thanks!! My Pro does not have parking sensors, so a front cam would be real nice... But, I did not want to do anything cheesy.

If you have any problems or questions let me know. One word of caution. Go easy pulling the wires through the grommet on the firewall. I had help and the person on the outside pulling seems to think brute force is best. Tie and tape your pull cable on both the end of the cable and further down on the wide spot. Lube the wires too.

    Just discovering this, how awesome.

Put me on the list of owners who were mystifieat by the lack of central parking sensors.

Yep, I could drive straight into an 18 wheeler and it wouldn't tell me, but it sure screams about the Bogainvillea next to my driveway!

I'm super glad I added the front camera when I did the new HU. I'm usually pretty good about knowing where my wheels and bumpers are, but almost 2 years in and I still have no idea where the front of this pig is.

I programmed the Maestro to use one of the steering wheel control buttons to bring up the front cam with a "press & hold".
