    Hey everyone :hattip:

I was wondering if anybody knew the bolt size for the tow hook.
My Truck is a 2016 Toyota tundra. I would want to remove them to paint them red, but I just want to know the size of the bolt to remove it. I dont have the rights tools so i would have to ask my cousin to borrow it from the shop, so if anybody knows the size please let me know :)

Thank you, I will see when I get home.

I was just confused because it had a number 11 engraved on the bolt

I think the Plastidip might peel off if you use the hook

I used the Dupli-Color Super Red II. It is a good match to the color of the trd sway bar.

Looking to do the same this weekend. I picked up a cheap can of rustoleum paint and primer. Are you guys scuffing the surface to help with paint adhesion or just wiping it clean and doing the primer/ paint?

That looks great, do you remember what color (name, code, etc) of powder they used? Or how much it costs? I was hoping to do this one on the cheap. Too much money going out for other mods at the moment!

Search "red tow hooks" in another post, I mentioned the powder coat color code that my local shop used, can't remember off the top of my head, it's a spot on match for the TRD red. Cost was $40 if I recall.

Yes, the cab and front are on the body mount bushings thus the flex and reason for bumper gap (I measured 13 - 15mm from three different trucks). That's why I don't understand aftermarket bumper don't account for this. I had to modify my ADD stealth fighter bumper.

...and regarding the tow hooks, this thread has convinced me to do it myself. I'm painting my grill this weekend, so i'll hit my tow hooks with epoxy primer so they dont rust, and then whatever can of red I have lying around.

So I took my tow hooks off...but I don’t have any red paint at all lying around. I prefer Kawasaki (green) lol. Anyways, this means I’ll be buying some red paint. Here are my options...lacquer, enamel or alkyd. I’ll be cleaning it up well and removing rust (it’s not that old, so only really rusty on the welds) primer and then paint. WhT kind do you guys recommend? Lacquer is hardest and easy to recoat, but really thin and may chip away. Enamel is in between, and alkyd is thick and soft (rust paint) so it will sort of absorb chips and such...I’m leaning towards oil based alkyd tremclad

Good point. I painted a number of bits on my last bike (the one in my avatar) with a similar product (the gold forks for instance) and I essentially baked it on beside the stove pipe of my waste oil burner i the garage (around 200F) and it held up extremely well.

Well I painted and then baked my tow hooks. They got a bit darker after the oven. Oh well.

Duplicolor engine enamel. I baked it at 250 for 45 mins. Didn’t smell much at all actually. Wife noticed but didn’t freak out at all.

So that paint i used is garbage. It went on poorly, and I chipped it twice just putting the tow hooks back on. Anyways, here they are

Before getting them powder coated I painted mine three times myself taking time to prep it well and after a year they were chipped up pretty bad. Holding up way better with being powder coated !!
