What is the recommendation for new bearing/hub units? Dorman is the only one I’m seeing that I’ve ever heard of. OEM is crazy money

Somewhat by accident, I put Dorman units on my truck (they were in a Napa box, but had the dreaded Dorman logo on them). I am almost certain that one has started making noise, and they don't even have 5000 miles on them.

There's a guy on eBay selling Koyos with the hubs pressed on for reasonable money, and that is something worth considering. I have a press and should have just been less lazy and grabbed Koyo or Timken replacements. Lesson learned!

I found the eBay guy who uses Koyo and sent him a message.

    Thanks!

I was also looking at complete hub/bearing units to make the job easier

I have looked at Rock Auto. The only name I’ve heard of on there is Dorman. Yes they make others but I have not heard of or seen their name mentioned anywhere.

Dorman,Koyo,or OEM are the only ones I have heard/used/seen referenced

@BlueCrushSC16 which brands have you used and what’s your feedback on them?

I read somewhere that Koyo makes the Toyota oem ones. I used them on my 2010 and didn’t have any issues. They were about 1/2 the price of oem.

I've used Dorman, Raybestos, and Pilot. All seem to be as good or better than OEM. I've had zero issues on parts I've replaced on a '03 Honda Accord, my '07 Tundra, '08 Pathfinder, and '14 Subaru BRZ.

I rarely use the "economy" brands and get at least the "standard replacement" ones.

Dorman has a pretty bad reputation...

I put a Dorman OE replacement transmission cooler on my last Dodge Ram and it started leaking in about four months!

Dorman stuff sucks! It’s what you use just before you sell your car.

theoretically, if i wanted 6-lug wheels for my 2nd gen, could i swap out all my hubs for 6-lug hubs? i thought about this recently but have done zero research thus far.

Went with the ebay koyo units so far so good and I put a real good beating on them over the weekend.

Dorman is always my last option, especially anytime that’s electrical or labor intensive. Their HVAC blower motors and door lock actuators are complete garbage.

I’ve had good luck with SKF bearing/hub assemblies. They’re on rock auto for $100 currently. That said, I have doorman assemblies on my 4R (with spacers) for 80k, and they’ve held up well so far. :notsure:
