Not sure if I am posting in the right place but don't see where this might fit (admin: if this fits better elsewhere, please re-locate, thanks)

Does anyone use any type of fuel additives? In my past I did use whatever I can find (the white STP bottle, not those bigger ones, the smaller bottle but are almost impossible to find now), wife was asking the other day and I thought to get some ideas on:

    1. Does it work (I mean, should right? To some extend)
    2. If it works, what would you recommend?
    3. If not, what would you recommend for engine clearing short of sea foam?

Thanks. I figured as much. And I don't even remember where I saw something about sea foam, but I am guessing it was carb cleaning, which is a different story altogether.

When my '06 had extremely high mileage, I used BG 44k. My Toyota shop had used it to clean the throttle body and recommended it. YMMV on advice from anyone who sells a product in their parts shop.

x2 on Keith's advice, though. Chevron uses PEA, which is a great additive; but regardless of which top-tier gasoline you use, you should not be going to Quick Trip or other non-branded gas stations:

Unless I am traveling, which I still try and stick with Shell/Exxon, I use Costco Gas as they have lower prices and cash back on their CC.
I guess unless you go super high mileage (300K+) regular gas should be more than enough, even then, additive might just be too much....

Quick research finds Costco bids on Top-Tier gas, which already has additives, and they add additional detergents at the pump (look for some label denoting 'Kirkland Clean Power' or 'Signature'). I couldn't find (in the 6 or 8 minutes I looked) which detergents they use. All Costco stations will be different, though, so YMMV between them. I'm a clown off the street and not a mechanic or chemist, so I'd salt whatever I say heavily and do your own research.
    Kirkland Signature™ Gasoline | Costco

My '06 started losing HP at 190k miles or so, and I kept it another 50k or so, adding the BG44k every 5th or 6th (sometimes 8th) tank. I could feel a difference in smoothness at idle and at speed on the tank after using the additive, even though I was fighting against deposits left by years of cheap gas. I'm hoping to avoid that with my '20, and the additional couple of dollars per tank I spend going to stations with good branded gas won't bother me.

    Good luck.
