Anyone experiencing a fuel gauge issue?

10 days in and all was well. Drove to work and tank showed just under a quarter tank used and the kms to empty. Got in at lunch and the tank showed full to the brim and full range.

Had this happen this morning. Started it up, gauge settled at 3/4 tank where I left last night and then watched it move to full. Appointment set Saturday at the Dealer. They can reset and this starts a record on the issue.

I've had this issue since day 2 of acquiring the truck back in 12/15. Took it to dealer twice and they even dropped the tank to check the fuel sending unit which checked out fine. The gauge only fluctuates when backing out of my garage to a sloped driveway. Needle would move to indicate more fuel. Tech came to my house and hooked his laptop. Backed out and his laptop indicated the sending unit is good but when it got to the flat surface, needle stayed high but sending unit reading went down. Apparently a field rep has the same truck and was able to recreate the problem w/ his truck. Case w/ Toyota has been opened and I'm just waiting for the fix now. My temp fix is to park inside the garage the other way around so that I'm not backing out when coming out. 2k miles now and issue still exist despite several fill ups.

Thursday, my fuel gauge started acting up just as you described. I even took pictures of it showing the App info and what the gauge indicated. It was working fine prior to this. I just filled it today at 12.2 Gallons and the gauge reading moved from the 3/4 line to Full. 12 Gallons leaves 20 in the tank so if the gauge calibrated correctly would show between 1/2 and 3/4 full?

Someone check the logic behind this.

Did bring it to dealer today and of course no issues found. The tech tried to tell me the ECU still programing at just at 1100 miles and the App sync was not real time. Politely called BS. Requested they bring a senior tech in for resolution, and they committed ..............I am polite and patient and will follow this to a positive outcome

Mine also happens when parked on incline with nose up. Only happened twice. Nothing in 3 or 4 fillups since.

I stopped by the dealer today to follow up on status of the fix. Nothing yet but there's already an existing case w/ Toyota.
I have been driving it till it gets close to being empty and so far the "fuel remain before empty" reading seem to match w/ the gauge needle. I even parked it on a sloped and it did go up and will drastically drop when there's about 50 miles left to empty. Maybe its fixed? Don't know but I'm still waiting for Toyota to contact me for the actual fix.

Same issue. Changes value on the gauge frequently. Ugh.

After 4 fill ups, mine seems to slowly normalize, showing correct gauge position and miles. This may after all be a learning thing that the computer needs to do with the extended range fuel tank.

Update: After I reset the system, the fuel gauge position is aligning better with Miles driven

welp just happened again. Last time it happened at or right above 3/4 tank when I pulled the negative to reset, yesterday I was at or near 3/4 tank and now it shows right below full and the range is back up to 400 miles. Ugh, I'll just keep an eye on it to normalize and not pull negative.

Had his issue happen yesterday. Was waiting in line of cars going up a hill (10 degrees plus). Just happened to be looking at the fuel gage and there it went…from 3/4 tank to full. I had remembered seeing another thread an this but hadn’t really thought much about it.

Drove home and kept glancing at the gauge…it stayed on full. Pulled the negative from the battery, let it sit about 10 minutes and all is back to normal. Annoying but a simple fix. About 2k in on mileage and he first “issue” I’ve come across. Overall, very happy with the truck!

Damn…. This is interesting. I just filled up my tank and it took my about 2 miles for the fuel gauge to change to full and the system to reset my distance to empty. I know my 16 would do this but it was a few minutes after I drove off from the pump it would reset itself. Possibly a software issue

I filled up my tank once from half a tank and the gauge didn’t react to being filled. Odd thing is I had my scan gauge ll plugged in at the time. “Which doesn’t seem to work with my truck” I unplugged it and filled up again and everything has been fine since.. maybe it was a coincidence..
