Brought my 2016 to dealer for 50,000 mile service, they start telling me I should get my fuel injection system and throttle body cleaned. I’ve read through the maintenance guide and never saw anything about that in there at 50,000 miles. Are they just trying to steal my money or is it something I need to look into? I don’t do premium gas or sea foam or anything, but I also have no issues with my truck, it smelled like BS to me so I said no thanks (They wanted like $365 total including the oil change)

Yes that is a money grab from the dealer. If you want to you can take it back for a cleaning around 500k miles or so haha.

I’m not an expert but that sounds like B. S. to me as well. Especially if you are not having any issues.

Ya, I’m not an expert either and I don’t want neglect my truck because I want it to last, but if the maintenance schedule doesn’t say to do it, I’m not really convinced...

I’ve read of people doing the sea foam and running premium to keep them clean too but I dunno, also not quite convinced.

Most throttle bodies you can take off 4 bolts, unplug connectors, and wipe down the throttle blades yourself.

most vehicles come with self cleaning injectors.

edit: if an injector needs actual cleaning your truck will run poorly and throw a myriad of codes.

And to actually clean them you have to remove them and have an specialized out fit clean them with various methods.

    usually easier to replace them.

I had a ford that ran 200+k without ever touching the throttle body or injectors..
Hope that helps point you in the right direction

Just remembered I let my five year old remove , clean, install throttle body on my 2010 mustang gt. I was just there to prevent rounded nuts and something magically dropping into intake.

I had them tell me to clean mine at 100k on my last toyota. I just took the air hose off, sprayed cleaner and wiped it out. I know they probably do more, but I drove it another 150k miles after that without issues.

Fuel grade doesn’t have much to do with it. As long as you are using top tier fuel you are getting the cleaners.

I do run cleaners (Techron) once or twice a year, but I’m the first to admit it probably isn’t needed as long as you are using top tier fuel

Injector clean >>>>RIP OFF....but this is easy to do>>>. I check/clean my MAF and throttle body once a year. Takes maybe an hour tops.......ignore any HP gains unless your MAF and throttle body looks like crap.
