I tried to post this on Facebook, but keep having my posts deleted.

Is anyone having fueling issues with their 25 Tundra Pro?

When I get gas, I park the truck at the pumps, pop the gas door, and then close the driver door. I uncap and pump gas. After getting gas, I get back inside and try to start the truck, the electronics only turn on. No gas engine. I have to get out, lock the door, get back in to start the engine. This issue has been replicated multiple times. I have taken the truck to toyota, who said they couldnt replicate the problem. So I recorded the issue on the gopro below. If anyone has any answers, or helpful tips, that would be greatly appreciated. Mind you, this happens even if I lock or unlock the door after popping the gas door.

    Hail Mary Suggestion:
In search - Safety Feature: Modern vehicles, including the Tundra, have safety systems designed to prevent starting with doors ajar, including the fuel door, to avoid potential hazards like fuel spills or ignition issues.
Noticed that you open the driver door and then push gas door release. Have you tried shutting the engine off , give it just a few sec., then doing the gas door release before you open your car door? My thinking here is even though you have just turned off the car the electric circuit is still active for a very short period of time and the last thing the truck sees is that the gas door is open. As stated just a Hail Mary here.
p.s. personally some of the nanny features while well intended are in actually a PITA.

Glad I don't have a locking fuel door, wish my tailgate was manual as well, but these are the times we live in.
Also, my truck will start with the door open or ajar. Won't move, but it'll start.

I start my 25 Pro with the doors open almost every morning. I haven’t had any issues with fueling these past three months and over 3k miles.

Has your truck been doing that since new or did it just start happening?

I have a 2023 Tundra Trd Pro. I have the same issue as you do at times.

you have to make sure you are pushing the break petal down hard enough while you are pushing the start/stop button.

Maybe it’s a safety mechanism built in that a certain pressure has to be applied ? My truck has been very reliable.

Since the hybrid’s starter only engages on the first start after refueling, bad battery or starter circuit? Dealer issue for sure.

I just tried both and still had the same issue. I'll mess around with it some more.

I think I only noticed it, because I use to go inside the gas station to get gas. So I would lock it up. Lately, I have been trying to quit, so I dont ever go inside anymore.

I tried a harder pressure with the brake pedal. Still no luck.

It's possible. The dealer said that the truck didnt throw any code, or had any codes in the past. Will have to double check with them next time.

Not sure if it's related but I've noticed your digital cluster does not have the national park start up screen. Instead, it goes directly to the gauges. Do you happen to know why that is?

I’d bet this is it. The hybrids are designed to use their standard 12V battery and starter under the conditions you describe. Not sure why it wouldn’t throw a code, but I did not hear the characteristic “starter” sound mine exhibits on the start just after getting fuel. This is reportedly designed as a way of “checking” and keeping everything moving in the starter and should work when the truck is at operating temp and the fuel door was opened. Since yours doesn’t do it on the one start attempt after getting fuel, it probably reverts to the normal hybrid high voltage start on that second ignition attempt as it does on every other start up. I’d try to talk to someone knowledgeable at your dealer and see if they can work it up for this.

On cold start start it will show the mountains. If I just turn on the car without stepping on the brakes, I get a wheat field or something.

Hmm. Thanks, I'll give them a call.
