I recently traded in a 2022 4runner for my 2020 Tundra and I have been happy with just about everything except the garage door opener. In my 4Runner, I could hit the button when I am turning onto my block, ~200-250ft, and it would open. My Tundra won't open the garage until I am almost in the driveway, at most 50ft. Is this common for everyone else and is there a way to strenthen the signal?

Welcome to the forum from OKC! Lived there in Albuquerque for a few years back in the 80's. Anyway, not even sure if my truck has the feature. However, my 2018 4R has got to be really close for it to work. Sorry, not much help! Others will chime in soon.

Edit: yeah have it, just never had my glasses on while looking at the mirror! Ha! Tiny buttons and bad eyes.

I have this same issue, but worse. I have to have the truck right on it to open the door and even then it sometimes doesn't work. I'm not sure if it is the Tundra or the garage door opener, but I feel like it is related to heat some how and boy has it been hot.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Mine always works when I use it, typically about 100-150 ft away.

~100' is my max. I use it to open a gate on my inlaws road and it's annoying because it's a 12' gate that needs to swing all the way open so I have to get up close and then stop and wait for it to open. If it would reach further, i'd be able to activate earlier and not have to stop.

I've tried mine at around 200' away and it works fine. Aluminum doors and 6" thick solid logs with no windows or walk-in doors on that side. My garage door openers are 22 yrs old and I never thought it would work but on a whim I programmed the Tundra and it turns out it has more range than any of my other openers.

No garage, but I do have a "Mighty Mule" automatic gate. Same story. The clicker it came with, and the aftermarket ones, all have longer range than the truck. So, I just keep a clicker clipped to the visor like everybody else. The one built into the truck is basically a spare, in case my gate clicker has a dead battery or something.

I wonder if you can try moving the opener antenna into a different orientation and see what happens?

    Too many, but not enough....
do you have any lighting/electronics upgrades to the truck that may affect signal?

I do not. The truck has a few mechanical upgrades but no electronics.

I can't find anything online about the antenna location or orientation. Do you have that info?

Do you have a light bulb on your garage door opener? LED light bulbs may interfere with signal. It is best to stick with halogen on the garage door opener.

I do, but that doesn't explain why my other vehicle and the regular garage door openers work fine at distance. The issue appears to be something with the truck, especially since everyone's reporting very different ranges and capabilities

I'd imagine that it depends on your opener brand. Mine has a thin flexible wire hanging out of the housing and that would be the antenna. Climb up and see.

I misunderstood, I thought you meant antenna on the truck. I tried messing with the opener antenna with no success

Is this really a huge deal? If so, perhaps you can find an antenna amplifier or remote antenna for the opener. Just a quick thought.

For some, yes it can be a huge deal. Just like when people complain about the chrome around the gear shifter. Some may not think it's a big deal but to others, it is.

That is a bummer, I was hoping to avoid that and just use the factory equippment and not have to use my normal garage clicker.

Yeah, let me feel my feelings, bro. Ha ha. It's not an earth shattering issue, but it would be nice to be able to have the garage door fully open when I pull into the driveway.

Precisely why I have attempted to think of a possible solution.

There might be an issue with interference in your area and definitely possible since you are right there next to the Air Force base. :alien::alien:
