I think one would be it wouldn't occasionally poke out of the seem like the cables sometimes do. Kinda annoying to have to open and adjust. Cables are nice for quick removal and install though. This device might also help prevent theft, but I don't know the details to be certain.

It resets once the tailgate is fully closed. But if you have, say a dirt bike in the bed, and can’t fully close the tailgate, how do you open it? Second video says to lift the tailgate a bit and manually unlock both sides. What do you do if the tailgate is pressed up against the dirt bike wheel and can’t lift the tailgate anymore? You would have to always leave a gap between the tailgate and whatever you’re carrying. Kind of defeats the purpose.

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
This looks like a solution looking for a problem. After owning over 20 trucks of my own across more than 50 years and driving various work trucks for almost 20 of those years, I don’t recall a single time when this would be useful. I also was hauling lots of dirt bikes for a lot of those years. Every load was tied down to the rails or the bed. Tailgate was always either open or closed.

it appears that - you can simply click a latch and reset it in ANY position .

I have one on my tundra and my son has one as well. Best use is for dirt bikes when you need/want the tailgate partially closed. Yes you do need a little room to push it closed to be able to reset the clip to open the tailgate. When you are within 6-8" of the tailgate being closed, this is the hardest part to reaching the clip to be allowed to open the tailgate. (You can use just one side to keep it propped open, vs both.)

I use mine when towing the toyhauler. I can't drop my tailgate all the way or it hits the trailer hitch. So I can open the tailgate 1/2 way to get in/out of the bed for the trailer block (I have a bed cover which prohibits me from getting in from the top.

It can function just like the cable and you don't know its there. Only when you hit the clip will it be engaged to hold the gate partially open. It does make the tailgate harder to steal and I assume makes it stronger when setting stuff on it.

My opinion on the product-unless you need the bed partially open often (ex 2 full size dirt bikes) it is something I seldom use. For $150-$175, it was worth it to use. $200+, not worth it. Life expectancy-mine bent a part of it in 1 yr but still functions properly. My sons is damaged but can't remember if he got it fixed. We met the owner of the company at a trade show and he was really nice. Will see if my son's gets fixed under warranty.
