Im interested in getting my gauge cluster leds changed out. I’ve heard of a few people doing it but the members who did it seem to no longer be around.

mid love to get the optitron gauge but at $450-600 to buy and program it, that’s a little steep for me.

infound this company that says they’ll do it. Has anyone used them before or have someone the recommend?

Just looking to get a few things changed up on the truck to make it feel newer again without paying $$$$$ for a new truck!

I have never used any service to swap out the LEDs but it can be done. They are very small and its a tedious process.

Some clever searching can find you a limited optirion cluster for about $100 out of a wrecking yard. The websites advertising them for $300-$400 are just smart guys buying them cheap and making money. Come to think of it maybe I should do that lol.

Anyway if you really wanted I bet you could get a limited cluster bought and reprogrammed for about $200 total.

I’ll probably swap the LED’s out on my old cluster sometime soon. It shouldn’t be too hard to replace if you done any type of soldering before.
I’ll post some photos once I have mine done.

I’d definitely prefer the optitron cluster! If anyone has leads on a cheaper one please send them my way!

the problem I have with a lot of finds is that they don it show the cluster in an image to see if it’s the optitron or just the basic version of the gauge cluster

There is a lot of information on the optitron cluster in this thread here:

Spend sometime looking at and understanding the part numbers for the clusters. If you know the exact part number, say optitron with no flex fuel ect it makes it alot easier.
I have called wrecking yards before that advertise said part number and gotten them to email me photos of it before paying to confirm it was what I wanted.

thanks for the help. I did find that page and the part numbers that correlate to my 2011. I’m assuming the 5.7 is the same as the 4.6? Also I was scouring ebay and they don’t list that as the part number on the auctions, not any of those on the list in that thread. So I’ll just have to keep looking into it

I bought a ton of stuff for my 2008 direct from LKQ. They sell retail and wholesale…and list a lot on that too. I did the swap to optitron back in 2015 - found a cluster for $120 through car-part.com, bought a new tinted lens for it direct from Toyota (it’s available as a separate part, or at least it was), and was $100 to have a local guy reprogram.
The optitron setup moves the some of the data from the middle clock screen to the gage cluster, which is nice. And the lighting is so much nicer too.

Yes car-part is another great website I should have mentioned.

OP it would probably be worth your time to look at your info buttons on the right side of the cluster, you will need these to control the new display in the limited cluster.

I have never done the limited cluster upgrade but all the ones I have seen look 10x better

The only issue I had with it was it made me want to change all my other buttons too!
I did put a 2010 JBL radio in my 2008 so that got rid of more of the pumpkin orange…
It’s a slippery slope. Kind of like chrome delete

I actually just added the buttons to control the middle display a few weeks ago, had to run the 2 wires to get it to work.

Currently working on adding the auto headlights, which now has me wanting to do this cluster mod

I read about it but I think that’s a little involved for me! But I am considering the steering wheel controls next, just can’t seem to find a replacement airbag cover and not spending $500 for a new one lol

I finally scored an airbag for my 2018 wheel for like $200 on eBay after a few months of looking, the wheel it’s self was only like $100 from a wrecking yard. I believe some of the newer tacomas and 4 runners use the same airbag. Just have to look really hard and you will find one eventually
