was the thermostat dongle vent point at the 12 o'clock position? Did you PROPERLY burp the cooling system? Did you use the proper toyota/asian pink coolant? Did you use the proper amount?

Did you get aftermarket or OEMthermostat?

Did not change the coolant. Thermostat vent is on top. Truck idles for 10 minutes before hitting red

Did you add coolant after the thermostat change? I.E. fill radiator and coolant tank. Did you purge the system? If you're trying to purge the system of air, and within ten minutes it overheats, you might be looking at a water pump problem.

why did you change the thermostat and coolant temp sensor originally?

Furthermore, WHICH coolant sensor did you replace? And WHAT was the part number?

If you have the V8, there are two sensors, side by side, one for the ECU and the other is for the gauge in your dash. Also, these trucks HATE aftermarket electronics, especially sensors. Buy Denso brand from a reputable source (not scAmazon or fleaBay) or don't bother.

I dunno what the threading is on both sensors, but if it's the same threading, maybe you ordered the ECU sensor and installed it in the dash gauge hole?

    Give us some info bro:
    • Picture of the sensor you replaced and everything around it
    • Brand and part number of the sensor you replaced it with

I'll ask the same as others. Which sensor did you replace. Here are the two sensors with part numbers from @Tundra2
    Temp 2 ECU.jpg Temp 1 gauge.jpg

I once bought a cheap off brand sensor for the gauge in my camry (same part number) and it reads hot at normal operating temperature. If you hook up a OBD scanner that can read coolant temp it will tell you for sure what the temperature is as it reads from the ECU sensor not the gauge sensor.

I replaced both sensors with parts from an auto parts store which look exactly like the pictures shown. The truck was reading hot before replacing the thermostat and sensors. The heat also stopped working at the same time as the gauge started reading too hot. Could it be a blockage?

If the heat stopped working, the coolant wasn’t circulating. Step one was thermostat like you did. Step two is now making sure the system is burped out. Step three could be water pump, but it should show sign of failure like weeping if it’s going bad.

No heat means there is not enough coolant to make it to the heater core. When you turn the heater on, hot coolant is sent to your heater core for the heat. No coolant reaching the heater core, no heat.

so you got a air bubble in there or not enough coolant in your system.

if you properly burp your system (get all the air out) AND you know you've got roughly 3 or so gallons in your system. Your water pump left the chat

I haven’t seen an overt water pump failure here. You do need to point the nose of the truck higher than the back and have the heater on full blast while burping.
