hey...I am doing My JVC Z1000w Receiver and I know I would love to get 2 12" Full Subs though I don't know if they will fit in back etc. 2 separate amps. all new Focal Speakers...so I was looking for some advice about even if I need it. and would it hurt to have that extra battery?

I’ve had the genesis dual battery kit for about 2 years with no issues. The cables were a little tight and I can’t open the fuse box cause the tray lip is in the way. They just updated their design. I’ve heard of trays breaking off from the nutserts they supply. I’m going to put the new tray in this summer and use bolts.

I have not read a poor review of the Genesis. @DaddyPete @timsp8 Do you know what batteries you have?

Dual batteries for a sound system? Why? Will you be running it a lot at full power while parked with the engine off?

The reason broverlanders have dual batteries is they use their truck lights for site lighting when the engine is off.

I would do a high amp alternator first before dual batteries if it's just for the wub wubs. The only exception to this is if you're wanting to burp records on a termlab. You should not be drawing more than your alternator can put out.

If you just want it for the flex, then fk it thug life and don't listen to me.

I have 2x odyssey 25-pc1400. I’m pretty sure that battery is discontinued. They offer fullriver batteries now with the kits. If I get new batteries, I’ll probably do an optima red and yellow too. The odysseys have been crap for me in cold weather.

Thank you. And that is why I was asking since their FAQ says the Optima is not a good fit and that "material must be removed" -- whatever that means.

I run the Genesis system and have had it for 2 years now. My original bracket ripped through my truck on our overlanding adventures and since then however, they folks there at Genesis redesigned the mounting feet and it's much more robust and distributes the weight better. We will be adding another system to our 4Runner based on my experiences with Genesis and their customer support.

picture included as it's better than just text =)

Running off it is our Warn Winch, BD Light bar, fogs and ditch and in the summer our ARB Fridge. A couple more light sets to be added in the coming months.

Cool, cool. Thank you. It sort of looks like a high school science experiment, but that's just me.

    Some stuff
i have a single shallow mount Fosgate 12” in a crewmax. you could easily build a box for two if you put amps under the seat.

with regards to dual battery, i had a similar setup to the genesis. never again. it’s way too tight to the frame and a ton of weight sitting on the wheel well. replaced it with the sdhq setup. much much better.

I have the Genesis kit and besides the install and incorrect advertising, I like it.

As far as I know, there’s no other options out there that don’t require relocation of components like the wiper fluid reservoir (which affects its function). I was trying to avoid that so I went with Genesis.

I found the instructions a little vague and had to scour the net for fixes to known problems. I wish they would update the manual and their website to reflect these things. Knowing them ahead of time certainly would have changed my mind on the purchase.

They advertise a “drop-in” installation, but I found that’s not exactly true. There was no mention of having to modify the fuse box feet and cant the battery tray at an angle for it to fit. I had to find forum posts from the owner, or a Genesis rep (not sure), saying this was a known issue and just something you needed to accept given the tight engine bay and LED front lights. It also makes it near impossible to access the inside of the fuse box.

As others mentioned, the stock wiring was very tight. I really had to fight it to get the terminals hooked up.

Other than those problems, I’ve been happy with the function so far. I don’t know if I have the new or old kit to be honest so I guess we’ll see if the battery tray breaks loose over time.

*Edit: It does look like they’ve updated the website because the product photos have changed (they’re using a different battery brand). I’m not seeing a mention of “drop-in” installation anymore. I don’t think I imagined that, but maybe I was wrong.

You are correct on your thoughts. When I had gone through my steps, similar issues arose and thankfully Genesis was quick to reply to my Instagram questions. They have since redeisgned the craddle for the batteries and also do work with other 25 batteries from what I gather.

The Genesis system looks very well put together but you can accomplish most of the function with just the solenoid that is mounted on top. You also would not need to purchase two new batteries, just one.

-Get a second battery and mount it.
-Run a positive cable from the main battery to the secondary with the solenoid inline.
-Wire the solenoid to trigger closed, conductive, when the engine is running.
-Wire all accessories to the second battery.

When the truck is off, the accessories only drain the secondary battery. Once you start the engine, both batteries will be connected and charging. If you are worried about over working the alternator from charging two batteries, put some of your savings towards a high output alternator. An added bonus is that you don't have any "smart" items that can fail. Just a cheap mechanical solenoid.

This is a very simple setup that has been used on smaller boats for decades. Just make sure that the proper wire size is used and all extended, think locating the battery in your bed, are fused properly.

You have pics of the JVC Z1000w head unit installed. Thinking about getting one.

    A lot in progress!

I got two 10s to fit pretty easley, group is right, depth is hard. Have to find a slim sub.

Does anyone have photos of the bottom of the battery tray? The solenoid?

As far as those with the set up, is the bottom of the battery mount tray grooved to keep the two batteries in place? The reason I am asking, is the wiring can be modified to relocate the second battery. The tray is large. I was thinking about using the setup and taking a larger battery and rotating it 90 degrees. Then putting the second battery elsewhere. Maybe a third as well.

Am I missing something, other than the container aka battery tray. Is this a battery tray, high amp wiring, mounting points, and the electric pieces to run it?

The solenoid, and smart isolator controller? Seems those are the only two pieces that actually manages the electricity? I have read about a "boost switch". Is that on top of all the wiring stuff or located elsewhere?

I don’t have any photos, but it is not grooved. My 2 batteries can slide slightly which I don’t mind because it let me push them to the side away from the engine. You could put a larger battery in the tray, but would lose the convenience of it all being together.

The kit comes with everything except the screen monitor. There is a switch on the tray to put it in boost mode, or you can do it from the screen inside the truck.

Yeah, now that seems more appealing!

Ok, so the boost switch is not visible from the top view? Thanks

It’s on the backside of the solenoid. It’s just a little silver button that wouldn’t be noticeable if you didn’t know it was there.
