Im currently full timing on the road. Recently went from a Tacoma to a Tundra to pull a 23’ trailer better.

originally wanted the Super Pacific to full time in that but the wait was so long, decided to try a trailer. So the new plan is to have the trailer half the time and take off in the Tundra with the truck camper the other half. I will be more towards minimalist when just in the truck.

It looks like I can get the Super Pacific at the end of August, due to placing deposit last year but switching the Tacoma truck build, changes the price, the new price will apply. Was originally $9500, new price $12,500. This makes me consider the GFC. Mostly due to fast build time and lower price around $7700. I’ve checked the other lightweight truck campers and the majority have a long lead time.

Only other builder with okay price and quick build time is Topo Toppers. But it doesn’t look like I can easily attach an awning, and brackets to carry something else. So, thinking I’ll stick to GFC or Super Pacific for resale value

anybody got experience with either of the two campers?

I've personally seen both up close and I would go with the GFC. My old man has one and its bullet proof. There's a ton of accessories for it as well. The GFC sits lower to the roof line and is lighter than the SP counterpart which are both big factors to me. Not to mention the cost/wait time difference.

I currently have a GFC and love it.

With that said, I'm close to the SP shop and see theirs in person. The main differences are as follows:

    * Maturity: GFC has been around longer and has production dialed in whereas SP is still experiencing growing pains
    * Platform size: SP is longer and has an option for floor pass through panels. GFC does not have that yet
    * Weight: GFC is super light compared to the SP
    * Accessories: Both have similar accessories, but SP has molle panels, includes wiring races, is easier to configure internally vs. GFC
    * Aftermarket support: Both have great aftermarket support for bags, mounts, drip rails, etc
    * Support: GFC support has proven to be top notch. SP support is there, but I don't have personal experience to know if they live up to customer expectations.

As you can see below, I'm biased towards GFC, but know many SP owners in my area, so you really can't go wrong with either!

Have you looked at OVRLND Campers? I like their design and customization options a lot. Especially using barn doors in the rear, makes getting in way easier than climbing under a lift up panel.

Lol I ordered it awhile ago but it sat on a ship outside of LA for months. Finally got it and then sat in my garage for a few more months.

I decided to end my agreement with Methods and rock these bad boys late last year!

Very nice setup you have. Decided to go with the GFC because of price, lead time vs other lightweight campers lead time right now. For the SP at $12,500 I would rather get the GFC temporarily and put a deposit on something like a vagabond that has a year wait time and have the add ons at the same price vs SP would just be a shell. Although really believe SP has a great product.

We shall see how it goes with the GFC. Also gonna have to prep the Tundra for it. Noted having to do bed rails, have to research that more.

I did but they have an 8 month lead time. Even looked at SmartCap, regular fiberglass camper but for a similar wait, GFC seemed like a better fit. I’m on the road and want something quick. Can always sell the GFC and get something better suited later. Might consider this one again but did really like AT Overlands campers too.

Also looked at Topo Toppers because of their quick build but didn’t like they blocked comments on their YouTube. Find that very suspect.

I'm a little late to the party, but I was also considering GFC vs SuperPacific... Here are my thoughts:

I was in the same boat, but when I added up the cost of all the "upgrades" I wanted to the GFC, like the tent side doors/windows ($525), topper windows ($400) and a color other than black/white ($400), the $8200 price shot up to $9500. Add in "install" of $175, and now it is about $9700. Full sized SP is $12,500 so it was really only about $2500 more. For $2500, you get a better bed/tent size, better mattress, better doors and latch hardware, better gear loading bc no internal angled braces, clean wire chases, tent vents that can be used in a downpour etc.

I mean really?!?! $525 to add a zipper to the side of the GFC tent? Forget that!!
$400 to use a different color on the paint/powder-coat?!?! It isn't like it costs them any extra for a different color...
I hate companies that try to nickel and dime me, so that is why I just put down a deposit for the SuperPacific X-1.

As far as the weight, GFC weight for full size trucks is listed as 300lbs. The SuperPacific is listed as about 370... So the GFC weight thing is not "super light compared to the SP".

This is true. I ended up picking up the SP for the Tacoma while I decide what to do. And the SP is pretty awesome, in regards to attachment points it’s really easy to deal with. I frequently over analyze and this makes it easier to just try different variations. I’ve been in it for two weeks. The main thing being clear is that I’m gonna have to be in the Tundra for more room(full timer),don’t want to let the Tacoma go after 10 yrs together. But things change and I’ve been tempted to place another deposit on an SP for the Tundra.

since I already ordered a GFC, somewhat regretting it but im not sure if I’ll try a van. But also I’m glad I’ll have an option with gear storage in my truck bed while I decide what to do. So, the Tundra w/ GFC and hauling my 23’ trailer when I want more comfort is the current plan. If I decide a Van or other type of truck camper like a Four Wheel Camper is better later, but the SP is still a consideration. The GFC is more of an in between choice at the moment, I think it’s great for minimalists and weekend warriors and I’m not either. Can only handle minimalism for short periods.

I can see the SP being beneficial for my frequent rearranging for seasons and situations. Just have to figure out more things. But either way $2500 more is still significant for what is essentially a shell. And yes GFC is nickel and diming. The game out here is wild expensive and I wonder how it is even possible that there’s enough people with that kind of money to create the market for it. I’m thinking of all the overland trailers, truck campers, vans going on. The prices are insane. And it seems business is booming.

Either way I’m glad to be in the position to be able to make such choices although more on the budget end when I see what’s out there. Could never afford this in my twenties and would of scoffed at such things, some of my friends have scoffed at what I paid for the SP but they also don’t understand the market options.
