Looking for some advice from the experts here, any input/direction is appreciated!

I bought a 2023 Platinum in Celestial Silver Metallic a couple of weeks ago. The driver rear fender flare has some scratches in it.

I found the Toyota P/N for the flare: 75088-0C900, and ordered it through the Parts dept at Camelback Toyota.

I show up on Friday and the part that arrived is a textured, semi-matte black finish. I told the guys it didn't look right, and that the description on Sparks calls out gloss black. The CSM Platinum's all have gloss black fender flares.

They agreed and figured it was mis-packed, so reordered it. The second part showed up today, and again has the same textured, semi-matte unfinished look. The parts dept guy called Toyota and they told him this is the only way they offer the part, and it would need to be prepped and painted to match the CSM Platinum gloss black.

Can anyone confirm from their experience if this is correct? I would understand needing paint to match the body color or something, but I thought the gloss black would be an option. For example, the TRD Pro camo flares have their own P/N's.

If I'm going to need to pay for the part, and now prep/paint, I assume this will double or triple my costs. I have looked at after-market flares, but don't really like the look of any of them.

If I'm going prep/paint route, now I'm wondering if they can repair the damaged one. The scratches are a bit deeper than they look in this photo (attached).

    Thanks for reading!

that is correct, toyota doesn't have painted parts anymore

body shop will have to paint and match gloss black if thats what you want.

may as well have them do all 4 and get color match, HA

    Yep, paint to match.

There are a couple of sites that sell painted parts you may check into.

That said, as minor as that scuff is....I'd take a scotchbrite pad and some gloss black rattle-can spray paint and fix that myself.

Thanks for the suggestion. Worth a shot at fixing... if it doesn't turn out, I'm in the same situation anyway. Any recommendations on grit for the scotch-brite pad? Assume maybe 2 or 3 different grits starting out coarse, finishing finer, then paint.

Honestly, I'd just pop that end of the flare loose from the truck, slid some cardboard under there to prevent overspray on truck, hit the scratched area with a fine pad to knock the sheen off, and hit it with a quick spray or two of paint from a distance to "feather" it in. If you do this right and limit the paint to only the immediate area of the scuff, it will be barely noticeable, if at all.

depends on your level of OCD as well, lol.

no way I could live with that on a expensive truck like that, it would drive me nuts as you will be able to tell when you look close Im sure.

I'm as OCD as most about keeping my vehicles clean. But, given the location and minor damage, I'd just throw some touchup paint on it and call it a day.

It's a truck not a Ferrari, after all.

    I hope I don't have to find out. :D

I had all of mine color matched before I took delivery, so alas, I hope to not have to try and touch that up.

I was thinking of removing the flare and spraying the whole thing- you think feathering in is better approach? I figure since it's a standalone piece and color, might look better uniformly painted.

I am quite OCD- very experienced with home projects, but never dabbled with cars and trucks. Time to learn

Yeah, if you're going to go to that extent....get a paint store to mix up a spraycan of automotive paint in that same black. Prep and paint the whole thing and you're golden.

Update- found a local auto paint shop, they color matched a spray can for me. I removed the fender flare, sanded out the scratches and hit the whole thing with a light sand, washed with dish soap then IPA, applied an adhesion promoter, then sprayed 3 coats of the gloss black.

I’m happy enough with the results- color is almost identical and after a round of polishing compound, probably as good as I’m going to get.

    Thanks for the advice here.
