I didn't see any other current threads about goat armor. I did look.
Anyone have first hand information about them? Looks like it is just a big magnet.

Not sure if they are the only company.

Interesting product. I like the pin striping collection I have although I have several gouges and a replaced non-color matched door that could be covered up by this. And would be cheaper than a repair and paint job. Putting this on the bottom of the want list.

After using my computer to get a good look at the patterns - no bueno. Taking off the list.

I would like flat black. Not sure if that makes me boring. I'm okay with that.

I actually asked them when they were going to make a kit for 3rd gen Tundras a couple of years ago. At the time, I knew a guy who's roommate owned a fast prototyping company, so I asked him how much it would be to cut bodypanel size high strength sheet magnet on one of his CNC tables. He quoted me 1300 for material, labor and machine time. I passed.

Goat armor is good, but it's a bit of a hassle. You cannot drive freeways speeds with it on and you must clean the paint before you apply it. This means quick detailing your truck at the trailhead. I'm sure you don't HAVE to do that, but if you're just gonna pin small scratchy things between your paint and a giant magnet, just pass on the paint armor.

I DO like Rhino Hide. I did send Rhino Hide an email about the same time in inquired with Goat Armor. They probably laughed really hard when they read what vehicle I was inquiring about. They have/had no plans to enter the US market.

Honestly, best bet is to just Xpel ppf the sides of the truck. They make precuts for the cab forward. You would only need custom cuts for the bedsides. This would be the most expensive option, but it's a 10 year product. Quotes I got were about $2500 for the whole truck. You can also ceramic coat it to protect it from UV and give you better water beading. No stress about scratches and door dings in parking lots too.

This is seriously the best web site. Thanks for the advise. Probably go with a wrap. Rather like my new (to me) Tundra and want to keep it nice.

Have you had a wrap done before?

Consider PPF. It's thicker than standard wrap and is self healing. A wrap will still get scratched and has a higher chance of lifting if a branch catches it right.

    +1.
Wraps have other issue as well and require proper special maintenance. Depending on the brand they are sensitive to pollutants, petroleum products and solvents. If you don't have a high trafficked commute this may not be an issue. The other big issue is with scuffs and scratches. They can't be buffed out of standard nonPPF wraps, its will be noticeable on high usage areas like handles. It takes some work to get 3+ years out of a wrap.

If you have maintained a wrap before feel free to ignore me. Its also possible vinyl tech has improved since my last wrap install and none of my concerns are valid any longer.

The GOAT armor is good in theory but I have seen guys that leave them on and then realize they had dirt between the truck and magnets causing scratches from the vibrations of driving. But the cost is more affordable than a wrap and PPF and will still offer protection if you regularly clean your truck.

wraps are good and require maintenance as does your vehicles paint. I know 3M 1080 and Avery SW900 offer self healing technology. If it’s professionally done I wouldn’t worry to much about peeling (or atleast I’ve never had any issues) this is my personal preference for the middle of the road option as I get a unique looking truck and protection for the whole thing at a cost effective price point.

PPF is a lot thicker than wrap and can take a beating for sure but you will pay a pretty penny to have the entire truck covered in the film and can get dirt buildup on the edges making it appear dirty.

GOAT claims you can drive highway speeds with it on. Hopefully their claims are true, as they are the only one with the product.

On this point, don't skimp out. Go with a reputable installer. A bad wrap job is more headaches than its worth. In the end it will be just as expensive unfukking a crap wrap job as it would have been had you gone with a reputable installer.

I don't know enough on the current wrap line up to talk to quality of the various vinyl vendors. There is a poster on this forum that runs a wrap shop but I can't remember the members forum handle.

I know that @DecalsByDesign does wraps. He has answered my vinyl-wrap questions in the past.

Maybe? IDK. The other magnet shits on the market like Smittybuilt had said not to drive at freeway speeds with the armor on. I did see a Jeep once transitioning between trails on a highway with the Smittybuilt stuff on and it was flapping in the wind. I thought he had peeled a doorskin and it was flapping, but it was the magnet armor.

Tons of 4runner people running GOAT Armor. Many of them leave it on all the time. I don't think there is a problem driving at freeway speeds, but you should regularly remove the armor and clean the vehicle and the magnetic side of the armor.

Just ordered a set. I’ll let you know how it turns out. I have been waiting a long while to get a set for the tundra (been eyeballing them since he’s been making them for the Tacoma) so I can hunt without worrying all the time about striping my truck.

I have a buddy that runs it on his 4Runner and loves it. I went to SMORR with him a couple years ago and we ran the hwy with it on and had zero issues. Its good stuff!!
