Does anyone have pics of a gold 1st gen with a black camper shell/topper/canopy/whateveryoucallit? My current setup is gold truck blue shell, which looks really distinctive on the road in an ugly way. I'm hoping a black shell will help.
    Thanks.

I would agree with you ... non color matched toppers are distinctive.

Black would definitely be better than blue... many soft toppers are black vinyl and that looks relatively "normal".

    Why not color match?

I would be doing the paint job myself and I feel like black is a lot harder to fuck up compared to attempting a gold paint job.

If I'm paying someone to do it, sure I'll color match and be done.

Found these pics online. What do you guys think? Too distinctive/ugly and eye-catching or is it OK?

Whole truck Raptor liner in olive green, leer camper cap, 5100 with OME, Wheelers AAL and Firestone Air bags.
I have a olive green raptor liner truck and had a grey topper and I just had to paint with raptor to match. I was almost going to do it in black but I figured it will look better in olive.

I have one of those mid-rise shells right now, and in my opinion the slight increase in shell height doesn't make that much of a difference. I used to have a cab-height shell on a 3rd gen Tacoma
