I have a 2008 tundra 5.7 lit, 4WD. A neighbor wanted to use my truck, which was running fine all day. Five minutes after he started driving, it went into limp mode and would not drive. The engine starts and revs well.

when I engage it to drive or reverse it does not move. When I put it back to park from reverse, there is harsh grinding noise.

The check engine light, ABS, 4Hi and 4Lo are on. When I ran diagnosis, I get P0500 code. I checked the transmission fluid level, it is full. Any suggestions?

I am hoping for the best, am I being too optimistic?

P0500 Vehicle Speed Control Sensor. Check for any type of damage in the wiring, if there is no damage then consider replacing it. I think there are 2 of them though. I may be wrong.

You have a broken axle, driveshaft or differential, transfer case or something similar. May be as simple as the transfer case being between 2wd and 4wd and basically being in neutral. Put it in 4wd and back to 2wd. Maybe transfer case is stuck between 2wd and 4wd. If you put it in 4wd and the truck moves that will point you in some sort of direction. If you go back to 2wd and it still doesn't move that either means something with the rear end/driveshaft is damaged or could still point to the transfer case not going into 2wd fully.

The griding in park is the parking pawls jumping because the transmission is spinning. Stop making it make that sound or you will damage your possibly still undamaged transmission. If you put the truck in neutral for a few seconds after you try reverse or drive you shouldn't get this noise when going into park.

The speed sensor check engine light is because the transmission is spinning but the wheels aren't so it faults out.

    Hi NickB-01TRD

I want about checking your suggestions systematically. A few months back I had the 4Hi and 4Lo flashing which got fixed once I reset the actuator motor. So I started there:

I took the TC actuator motor off and tried to move the shafts in and out. The 4Hi moves in and out and you can feel it engaging. The 4 Lo comes in and out and I do not feel it engage. I am thinking it may be the TC, stu

Did you figure this out? It seems like post #4, nailed it. The complication is the truck wants to be moving for gear changes to happen. That said, getting it on a hill and rolling it may be helpful as it wants that front axle rotating before it does anything with shift levers on the axle or t-case.
