Not a big deal, but something that has kinda… bugged me?

My 2022 SR5 4x4 (no TRD package, just the “TSS Off-road” appearance package) appears to be a bit lower to the ground than my old 2015 2WD SR5 (which I sold to my father in law, so I’m still around it all the time).

Simply taking a tape measure from the ground to the bottom of the side of the truck, the 2022 is indeed a few inches lower—but I know that’s not how ground clearance is actually measured.

An article from PickupTruck+SUV Talk lists the specs for these trucks alongside the prior gen, and the max ground clearances for the 2022 are all higher than those of the previous generation (10.7” to 11.1”, as opposed to 10.6”).

So, anyway. Does anybody know what the actual ground clearance of a stock (SR5) 2022 actually is and how it compares to its older siblings?

You got what you deserve. An inferior excuse for a truck shaped appliance. Enjoy it as you would a Camry wagon.

ground clearance is easy to come by in the aftermarket, the sense of manhood after buying a v6/auto is a little more involved.

    Too many, but not enough....
A quick good search shows that the 2022 has 8.5" of clearance and the 2021 has 10.1 inches so youre measurements sound right. But as far as how they measure I am not sure, they would probably go to the center of the vehicle and not count the rear diff.

The measurement for ground clearance is either the bottom of the pumpkin or the bottom of the shock mount on the rear axle. Only way to increase that is larger tires. Toyota lists two values for the 2022, a running ground clearance and a ground clearance. No idea what the difference is supposed to be.

I believe the new tundra has a smaller ring gear so it should list as more ground clearance since the diff should be a little higher.

    Lol what an asshole.
Why do you even post in this section if your thoughts on the 22 are that it’s an “inferior excuse for a truck shaped appliance”?

    You sound extremely jealous.

If I'm not mistaken the "running" ground clearance is the measurement with the front air dam deployed. The other measurement is when parked or the air dam retracted or if you have the TRD off-road package because it doesn't come with the auto air dam in the front.

Is this for all trims? I was under the impression that the Limited TRD OR still had this feature.

I'd wait for someone else to chime in but I'm fairly certain all TRD off-road packages nix this feature. A 4x4 limited would have it but not the TRD I think

Hmm but the “ground clearance” is less than the “running ground clearance” on the spec sheet. Also air dam goes up and starts up in 4HI so most shouldn’t consider it?

I'll try to remember to check in tomorrow... Picking mine up tomorrow morning-ish... Limited DC TRD OR...

EDIT: That guy from Pickup Truck Plus on youtube has a Limited TRD OR and did a video on the aero dam... I will still check mine tomorrow and report back...

I just came out of a 2021 that I loved. But I have to say, this v6 is MUCH MUCH nicer to drive. Just my 2 cents

Absolutely. Loved my 2015, but I’m several months and 5,000 miles into this truck and the new still hasn’t worn off. Love driving it, and it’s much more powerful. (My ground clearance question is… just a question, not a complaint.)

Now the ground clearance issue, along with all the other issues!! This has to be the worst "truck" ever!! I hope Toyota goes bankrupt over this!!!!!!........

Coming from proud owner of a '22 Limited CM TRD OR!!!

I mean, how dare they update a 15 year old platform to ride better, run better, and also cram so many standard features into. Proud owner of a 22 limites TRD OR

Update: my Limited DC TRD OR does have the aero dam… Wish it didn’t for future bumper plans, but by the time I get to that, a fix should be available…
