Justbought 2021 and console is MASSIVE!!! How are or what are people doing for mounting/storing guns in the tundras? First tundra and want to see what people are doing. Not looking for a console safe but wanting it to be accessible but secure.
    Thanks, David

No safe = not secure. Don't kid yourself.

There are quite a few people here that run magnetic mounts pretty much anywhere within reach of the driver. And it's not that hard to mount a holster in the center console. Some searching should find many pics.

First do yourself a favor and check out the OCD console divider and tray. Manufacturer is Salex. I think they are on the forum. Local Colorado guys. Then I clip my IWB holster in a spot on the divider I like.... don’t leave it in the console... not worth the risk. Carry your piece in at night and into spots you may need it... rather have it on me if I need it rather than wishing I hadn’t left it in the truck and now I’m outgunned.

Thanks for the replies. Not concerned about leaving it in the truck when out of it. It’s always on me or have multiple close by when at home. Coming from a Tacoma to tundra the console is so much bigger so I was just wanting to know where or how they were mounting. I realized in the tundra the console lid opens so much bigger/higher than taco ( taco opens from drivers side to pass side vs front to back ). With seating position just seeing what people have done. Not interested in safe because of lid plus fingerprint or trying to remember combo in the moment. Also taking into consideration if my wife is driving the truck.
Mind and adrenaline would already be sky high if in a situation warranted

I don't really understand the reasoning behind storing firearms in a vehicle unless you are already carrying one or two on your body and the stored firearms are just another backup which you take with you when you leave the vehicle.

There are posts all over of guns stored in trucks which could be why trucks are one of the most targeted vehicles for break ins. This might also have to do with all the stickers on the back glass advertising what's inside.

Here's what I have done, you can program multiple finger prints. I've tested it with sweaty, dirty, nasty fingers and it works all the time! And I have the key hidden close to the driver, if need be.

    Some modifying was needed

I would highly recommend a console safe, whether its a half or a full safe. You don't want to be the one who's gun is stolen and someone is shot with it.

I have the console safe for handguns... but Id like a secure, solid overhead rack to carry a long gun or two.
Havent found anything that looks real solid yet.

All Im seeing are these cheap chinese units.

Ooops. I carry iwb appendix... move it to the console when driving then back on to my waist when I leave the truck. It’s not stored in the console except when driving

The problem with locking it up is quick access if needed.

Don't get me wrong. I definitely think it should be locked up to prevent someone from walking away with it. However, in a life and death, need-it-in-an-instant situation, having it locked up isn't going to save your life.

and locking/unlocking the safe every time you enter/exit the vehicle just isn't realistic.

FFS guys... OP already said he's not leaving it in the truck. Get off the soap boxes about that. He just wants a place to mount it while he's in the truck.

No soap boxes here. These types of replies just come with the territory when opening firearm discussions. Some good suggestions were already posted IMO.

I just don't see it feasible to remove a holstered firearm just to store it in an unlocked fashion every time you get in and out of a vehicle. I'd be interested in hearing some reasons behind that. But I know everyone is different so maybe it makes sense to some people to do that.

Post #2 and 3 werent so helpful though. Post 5 hit the spot. If you really want to run this way, I'd go with a magnet mount. Google search as mentioned

Check the build link in my signature.
In my '08, I made a piece of loop fabric backed with a sheet of thin/stiff UMHW and some canvas behind that just to make it sort of rigid. I put grommet holes in the corners and screwed it to the inside side of the console. Then I just stuck a Maxpedition CCW holster and mag carrier to the inside of it and adjusted it till it was easy to reach from the driver's seat. And, like OP, I carried on person except when in the vehicle driving.
