Has anyone had a new engine put in yet under the recall?

I've been waiting 4 weeks now after my engine blew up. Just wondering if any of the new crated engines have shown up yet

From what I have seen the current failures are still being repaired with short blocks. Toyota hasn't finalized their recall resolution yet so no full replacements yet.

I've been told realistically it will be January. Just hopeful! Boreseun, per Toyota rep they are no longer doing short blocks and the engine will be a new crated engine w/turbos and anything the oil touches.

Just got mine back a little over a week ago after my engine blew up in late may. They replaced my engine with a short block. Originally my dealer expected it to take 6-8 weeks, it actually took 100 days.

Pretty sure you might still get the full engine replacement down the road!

The engines are on the way. We were notified getting three and an engine lift for the tundra. Full engines with turbos. So sooner than later -not short blocks. Toyota dealership.

My short block was replaced. Took over 3 months. When I went to pick it up the SA said I'll have to do it all over again when they ship the crate engines...

That's a positive, not a negative.... still now would be a good time to negotiate a trade up on 24/25, as you've been a loyal, patient customer.

the engines are not prebuilt from what my buddy (toyota tech) told me. It's literally a rebuild of your current engine, and they use back any existing parts that don't touch oil. It's a long long process once they start. Some dealerships like his are dedicating 1 person to do just rebuilds, that way as they do a few more, hopefully they get quicker at it. But it's a horrible job, for the tech that pulls the short straw.

That’s what they are doing for now and what they did to my engine. However, for the recall they will be switching to crate engines.

I agree there is some positives there but still a hassle after being out of use for 3 months.

However, I’d love to hear yours or anyone else’s negotiation tips for a trade up! I’ve seriously considered it and if anyone has gone through it please share your experience.

Hey guys, sorry to bring this up from the dead. I was planning to purchase a 2022+ Tundra but then of course heard the news. I have then started to look for an F150 because I need something reliable at the moment.
Before I get off the Tundra wagon though, did Toyota ever say that they corrected the problem in the 2024 models coming out of the factory? If so, what date/month of manufacturing from the factory should I be looking at when they supposedly started correcting the problem?

Buy the Tundra if it's under warranty. Get a free engine if you are one of the few unfortunates. I have a 2022 and I have yet to get/see/find a recall for mine. I keep plugging my VIN number in and get crickets.

I have a 2022 and I have received my letter to notify me of the recall coming up, but news on actual recall or new engine information yet.
That being said, I would still rather drive my Tundra than a F-150. Co-workers with F-150s have had engines replaced under warranty so there is no guarantee that it will be a better option. The difference is that Ford waits until it breaks and then fix it under warranty, while Toyota is replacing all the engines regardless of if it is broken or not.
Also, my 2022 has almost 70,000 miles and no problems yet. It might be at 100,000 by the time I get a new engine. That's a win.

Digital, I have a 2023 and it has been rock solid. 99% of these trucks are running perfectly. The F150 .....everyone I know has issues with them and the Chevrolets are even worse. I have friends with RAM's and they have had no issues so far so that might be an option.

Which engine(s) have your F150 acquaintances had problems with? What problems did they have?

My 2023 is rock solid, too. But that's the problem. They are rock solid until they all of a sudden finish eating the bearing.

Yes I think this is what kind of puts me off. I will be making long distance trips and being out in the middle of no where is a concern.

So from what I gather, there is nothing out there from those in the know about what build date could potentially fix the issue.
I was watching this video and it seems Jan and April of 2024 they started changing part numbers for the engine builds (starting where he talks about it):
    https://youtu.be/EyI4ujjxxuk?si=wvYdPpCHeJU_JvCD&t=861

Either way, I really appreciate all your responses and comments.

Brotha Ray, I hear you. If that happens just means I'll a new engine sooner rather than later. The good news is that Toyota did 100% the right thing to protect their stellar reputation. Only 1% are having issues so fingers crossed. If the engine lets go, it will get towed to the dealer, they will loan me a Taco or another Tundra until mine is perfect again. No big deal at this point. That is how I view it. Kid

Yeah, man. But like the OP I am leery of going out of the area. I need to drive to FL, but that takes me 1000 miles though some pretty sparse rural areas in VA, TN, and Alabama. Break down there and then what? Try to get a rental that will carry all my gear? And then leave my truck at the closest Toyota dealer down there for xx months? I know, the odds are that this won't happen, but even though I am retired Mr. Murphy isn't. Low risk, but high consequences. Classic risk management scenario.

Just out of curiosity, where does the 1% come from?

"Toyota is unable to estimate the percentage of the involved vehicles to actually contain the defect described in Section 5. However, as the NHTSA manufacturer portal requires an integer value be entered, Toyota has entered the value “1” in response to this question in the portal. For the purpose of this report, “1” means “unknown”."

UGH, ALL Tundra's under recall WILL get a NEW "LONG block with TURBOS"!!!!!!! Not months to years! All Affected will get one. Do you think Toyota is going to wait for one to fail and people possibly killed due to it failing??
Again,,,,,l, The motors are starting to ship to dealers. Again, we have three incoming.

Yeah, it is amazing that we still have some members here who do not understand what a safety recall means.
