I recently washed my 2015 Tundra I bought 3 weeks ago. After washings I noticed my black ultra motor sports rims were all white and hazy looking. Any ideas what happened and how I can fix this. I’ve tried re washing. Didn’t help at all.

Do you use aggressive wheel cleaner?

@War Machine might be able to help.

I never have. I just bought this truck used. They seemed fine when I bought it. But I just washed it with a basic auto wash soap I got from Walmart and now they seem hazy. Haven’t used any wheel cleaners or anything. Just auto soap wash.

It could be hard water or dried on soap, but probably not. Since it happened so fast, and you just bought the truck used, I’d bet that the wheels are oxidized, and it had been covered up with tire shine, wax, or something else prior to sell.

The wheels on my daughter’s Tundra and my wife’s old Sequoia are like that. Just oxidized, and no amount of cleaning is going to fix it. I can take some tire shine or Superior Cover All and make them look brand new again. It just wears off or gets washed off pretty quick.
I can almost guarantee that’s what whomever sold you the truck did. It’s not something many people would even check when buying a vehicle.

I’ve heard of people using a machine polisher and compound to fix it, wet sanding, acid baths, etc., but I never bothered trying to restore them. It’s just easier for me to do exactly what was done on your truck. Hopefully I’d have the integrity to let someone know if I sold it to them though.

This will happen to pretty much any black wheel of you don’t keep them protected. A good wheel coating or even just keeping wax or sealant on them will prevent it. Once they’re oxidized though, it’s a lot of work to get them back in shape.

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of restoring them, get some Superior Cover All from O’Reilly. Spray it on there, let it sit a few minutes, and wipe off the excess. They’ll look new and stay that way for a few weeks at least.

thank you very much for your input War Machine. I will check out those products you mentioned. It is unfortunate the dealer did not tell me about the issue. :/

Dealers are in the business of selling cars, Not making sure you know the faults of the vehicles they are selling. This is universal to anything involving sales. Just a FYI.
