I'm looking to upgrade the stock radio with a new head unit with Apple Car Play, Bluetooth, touchscreen, etc. I was shopping Crutchfield and there's a note indicating I either need to replace speakers or the stock JBL amplifier. I don't understand why I can't use the existing amp instead of replacing it and keeping the speakers as they are.

I was kind of hoping to keeping the budget under $1000 for this upgrade, but replacing the JBL amp as well as the head unit appears to be adding right up. I look forward to any explanations and recommendations that come my way. Thanks.

Actually, I think it'll work just fine to keep everything stock. Just may not get the best sound the aftermarket HU can put out.

$1000 sound system budget is easy depending on what you get. I just priced out a 6.2" Pioneer touchscreen HU, Pioneer 10" shallow-mount preloaded enclosure, 500W Class D mono amp, and 1 set of Polk Audio 6.5 component speakers for $840 plus tax on Amazon. So, still some left over for rear speakers and a wiring kit. You'll save more if you can pick them up used.

I wound up getting a KENWOOD along with the Maestro device to keep my capabilities. Just installed it, but the factory amp and speakers sound great. Plus, I kept, and added functionality, from the steering wheel. This one seems to meet all of my needs.
