the Previous owner of my truck did some work in the front end, including replacing the headlight sockets. he used basic auto parts store replacements and they are put in with wire nuts. :facepalm:no bueno. id like to solder in some OEM-quality connectors, but i need a few pieces of intel. I need to know what type of sockets the headlights are as well as the corner lights. also where can i find good quality replacements? Thanks for all your help.

I tracked down this piece of info from about 3 years ago.

    there are (2) 9003 sockets
    also (2) 3157a sockets.

    got it.

now, where can I find quality replacements? everything I can find seems kind of cheap.

I can make you pigtails. Photos of what you have right now could help though. I’d be impressed if someone hacked up the corner light connector (3 position straight grey).

I can also send you my OEM connectors for free, I’m going to chop them off and go with sealed versions to connect to my harness because I don’t anticipate even running without the harness.

so, post photos and dm me a shipping address? If you are close enough to San Diego I can crimp it for you but chances seem low.

I never expect to make a post online and someone volunteers to start chopping parts off their truck and shipping them to me:rofl:

You are the man! I am way out in wyoming so the crimp is a no-go. I will get pictures for you tonight.

If you want to order yourself, the H4’s I like best so far are these from CE auto electric.

So, your call. My H4's are yucky looking and feeling but they would be free to a good home. I haven't yet chopped them and it'll be a short while before I get to it but I like the incentive to get it done.

What I would do if it were my truck is buy a quality harness and either solder it in or butt connector or amp/weatherpack crimp it. You only need one side for the harness relay triggers. Then cut and heat shrink over the passenger side and zip tie it out of the way.

Corner light connector trouble i can help you with, I have all the oem connectors for that stuff.

Here’s what I’ve got going on. The turn signals are the same on each side and as I was pulling out the drivers side, a wire pulled out of a connector. I got it crimped back “good enough” but the turn signals are real bad. The drivers side headlight socket is pictured and the passenger side is the stock plug

I ran one of the cheaper Amazon harnesses. This harness is triggered by your factory headlight circuit but is thicker gauge wire and hooks right to the battery. Works fine for me. From what I understand it's pretty much the same thing @daveeasa is going to make himself with his higher dollar components and fantastic electrical and wiring skills. May have issues with fog lights due to very low load on factory circuit but that would happen with any harness at any price.

I’m actually currently running an el cheapo harness myself because I spend all my time crimping for others :).

I’d go with any harness over no harness and then if it’s cheap just cut and splice but you’ll need to probe to know which color is what on the driver side. Or you could cut and extend to trigger off the good passenger side and just heat shrink over the driver side and ignore it.

I can do pigtails for the corners but I neglected to document which side is parking light (dim) and which is turn (bright). I believe ground is in the middle, at least on my truck. I’d also prefer to color match so maybe it’s possible to get closeup photos of each of those showing the wire colors and where they go and which is which? If one pulls out that makes it easy and we can assume both sides are the same.

I’d refer to my truck but it’s 30 minutes away waiting on the leaf pack swap.

I’m also game for sending my oem H4’s next time I have a moment to harvest them.

I think the empty lord trick for fog light anytime would solve for the harness too. Though I think my useless fog lights still work. I am planning to just use a switch pros circuit once I get that in, unless or until I swap in a new stalk. No way I’m wasting one of those two switch spots on fog lights.

I will probe around with my multimeter and let you know how those turn signals are pinned. I will also do my best to note the colors, though the wires are in a bad spot to examine. I will definitely have you build pigtails for these. I haven’t decided if I’m gonna go with your old h4 pigtails or the new ones.

@Tundra2 if you have a spare moment, would you mind grabbing a halfway decent photo for OP and I so I can be super OCD and try to color-match? I don't think I did that for your OG T harnesses.

Hey, checking out my connectors and it's possible I sent you a slightly wrong setup? Not super sure, they are close, but the ones I sent I think are Tacoma SR and I think maybe you need these other ones. I can make a new set, no sweat on that, any chance someone can open one up and verify?

Sorry if I goofed here (seems like I did)

You just need a picture of the harness that plugs into the front turn signal housing? If so I can get one when I get off work in the morning if no one beats me to it.
