The button on the right with the trailer on it is for trailer backup assist but you need to set it up before using. It’s on page 394 of the manual.
You need to press the PKSB button on the left side of the steering wheel. Has a picture of a car with a cone behind it.

“Trailer Backup Guide is a system to assist when back- ing up a trailer by providing either (1) steering control to assist backing up straight (Straight Path Assist) or (2) guidance for manual steer- ing backup (Guidance mode).
Trailer Backup Guide uses the rear camera to detect the trailer and a trailer hitch light, which allows the driver to use the system at night time.
The system calculates the trailer angle by image pro- cessing from the rear cam- era and calculates trailer length and hitch length during the trailer setup (cali- bration) maneuver.”

I think it just takes practice with trailer backing, it isn’t easy when you first try. Also the shorter the trailer the harder it is

There is no reason to open the door once you practice it , just need the mirrors and turn around and look out the back window

Yes, that is a bit frustrating. I typically back up to a couple feet from the trailer, then get out to check and make sure everything is okay and ready for hookup, then get back in and back up the last couple feet without closing the door - there should not be a need to fully close the door just to open it again 2 feet later, but this truck will not allow it. Just old habits that need to be adjusted.

Same with not turning the backup sensors off. That thing will slam on the brakes hard! LOL. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

    Lots of stuff!
There are some assisted back up features but that depends on the trim level of your truck. I think the Capstone has this and maybe the Platinum/1794 as well.

I think you need to be in "tow mode" as well so the truck knows that the trailer is there. Otherwise, the truck thinks you are backing into something and slams the brakes on.

Backing up and trailering does take some getting used to!

Somewhere on a post I read here yesterday, in order for the brakes to not slam on you have to plug in the (a) 7 pin trailer connector.

If you have a 7 pin on your trailer, the truck detects the trailer and away you go. If you plug into the 4 flat pin ...what Borla said above

Stupid thing is even when plugged into the 4 pin flat connector the ruck still recognizes that a trailer is connected, this should disable the auto brake IMHO. Why it doesn't is baffling.

Does anyone else truck take forever to recognize that the trailer is unplugged after you disconnect? Especially if you do not restart your vehicle?

I think the simple explanation is , it's a complex machine and isn't perfect.

Ive had the delay in the trailer dropping off once or twice, goes away with a few restarts, again, nothing is perfect, just a software deal.

it doesn't do anything to normal driving when this happens, so just drive away.

O, and of course, boost on!

The are some things that are a very simple investment of time to disable alerts/functions that can make the truck more enjoyable. Or, you can just complain about it. A very short list, and I'm sure there are more:
    1. Press the crashing cone button you mention to turn off the brake zone application.
    2. Pressing the off button on the left side of the wheel to turn off the audible beeps.
    3. Pressing the start/stop button to turn it off.
    4. Holding down the left side of the cruise control button to turn off the adaptive cruise control.

It should be mentioned that hitting this button will permanently disable the annoying feature until you hit the button again, even thru start/stop cycles of the truck. Mine stays off 100% of the time.

As others have stated, the little 'backing into a cone" icon button down by your left knee should disable the auto emergency braking but not the annoying beeping sound when backing up a trailer

That is not an entirely accurate statement. If a trailer is connected several of the drive assist functions are disabled. Which is annoying.

While I agree nothing is perfect it is not complicated to monitor the presence of a wired connection on a continuous basis and change state of an ECU status immediately upon change of connection. Having to restart the vehicle a number of times to clear it is ridiculous. They should do better.
