Were you trying to change the pads, or legit, the brakes (calipers)? Cause you just unbolted your caliper. That's the brake fluid port which transfers fluid between both sides of the pistons.

Cool. That's what I thought. I think i removed too much. Haha.

I just need to top off the brake fluid and I should be good?

You'll need to bleed that corner. There's a few ways of doing it, so look it up. I always work solo and really like the cheap pneumatic kits.

Be sure to clean the rotor really well with a fast drying brake specific spray.

I bleed the fronts today. Everything works great now. Thank you guys! Going to replace the rear pads and bleed the line later this week.

There are 2 bolts in the back of the caliper to remove the entire caliper from the hub. Do not separate the calipers.

Plenty of videos on youtube.. probably should check it out prior to do the rear.. so you have a good idea of what to expect..

You can just pull just the bottom one and flip the caliper up out of the way I believe

True. That too. But in reality, you don’t need to remove the caliper at all to change the front brake pads

    Very little so far
I'll likely get flamed for this, but brakes are best done the 1st time with someone who knows what they are doing showing you how. Not for a self-described total noob who doesn't know what they're taking apart and has to be told to bleed your brakes after opening the brake fluid system.

This truck is a 3 ton behemoth and your attempt at working on the primary safety mechanism is putting everyone on the road in danger.

Stick to oil changes until you find a friend who can teach you how to do brakes. YouTube and forums like this can be great resources but can also be very dangerous for the over-eager newbie.

I appreciate your point of view. However mistakes are how I learn to do better the next time for this is a mistake that I will not repeat. I didn't endanger anyone because I didn't drive on the road until it was fixed. And I asked the forum for help that it why this community is si great.

Maybe think back to when you first learned how to do something. But again everyone can have an option. Have a good day

Great you got it done...Now you know. And a classic example of a drilled and slotted rotor, holes filled in...

So do you not recommend slotted and drilled rotors?

Yeah they simply look cool, surve not function and get filled with brake dust. Next time just go with OEM rotors and Pads.

Not necessarily . Many use them and like them, personal preference. Me, not so much. My opinion the holes make the rotors weak due to less metal, drilled and slots lead to less surface area for pad contact, .. I do have a set of EBC slotted only rotors, noisy when braking, and the slots have filled in, their time is up and ordered a set of plain rotor and Akebono pads.... Again my take on it..

The combination od slotted and drilled are known to cause hot spots and pulsation. Slotted only and cryo treated is a better alternative.

Usually slotted and driller rotors are not able to be turned for resurfacing. I'm not aware of any lathe machine that is capable.

OP I wouldn't stress or even think about all the shit everyone above is saying. If the brakes don't pulse, you're fine. The slight discoloration in the center of the rotor would not worry me. The slots and dimples would not worry me, I have those on my truck and have been totally happy with them. Opinions are like assholes, and you're getting a lot of opinions thrown at you that frankly don't matter. If the brakes feel fine and consistent when you push on them, don't sweat it and have fun. And congrats on getting your brake pads installed, I completely agree with your sentiment and think it's great you're willing to dive into things.

The set on my 2013 pulsated and shook the steering wheel pretty bad...that's why I pointed out the discolored band.

If his brakes pulse and shake that's one thing, if his brakes just look like that and feel fine there's no point in him overthinking that something is wrong.
